Faked or real? Stay tuned.

Walt Disney Co. said it’s prepared to take action to protect its intellectual property rights after performers dressed as Snow White and Captain America were sighted at Dalian Wanda Group Co.’s new theme park and entertainment complex in China.

“We vigorously protect our intellectual property and will take action to address infringement,” the company said in an e-mailed statement Monday in response to Bloomberg News queries about the characters, who resembled ones from Disney. “Our characters and stories have delighted generations, these illegal and substandard imitations unfortunately disappoint all who expect more.”

But when that same conglomerate, Dalian Wanda Group Co., opened a rival theme park over the weekend, visitors were greeted by workers dressed as Disney characters, including Captain America, Snow White and Star Wars storm troopers.

In a statement issued Monday, Disney said it has had a good relationship with Wanda Group’s film distribution business but added:

“We are perplexed that [Wanda Chief Executive Wang Jianlin] would choose to do public battle with us, or attempt to undermine our business in any way.”

In an earlier comment to Bloomberg News, Disney vowed to take action to protect its intellectual property rights.

“We vigorously protect our intellectual property and will take action to address infringement,” Disney told Bloomberg News.

chinese courts will rule that these are not copies of Disney characters. But in fact, Disney copied China.

Is it "Disney" or is it a "Dismey" park... Regardless, I don't think China copyright laws give a shit so have fun?

Those characters were probably wearing properly-licensed, real Nikes, right?

mildly disappointed that the storm trooper's eyes were not more slanted.

hasn't it already been established that china gives zero fucks

None. We've seen our prints with a different company copied over the top of our business name. Like the episode of The Office where Michael opens a competing paper company. One of our reps there didn't understand the idea of IP either.

I'm all set to get upset about this theft of IP but then I remember that Disney is the outfit that lobbies for perpetual copyrights then, oh look, a butterfly, how pretty.

It's harder to innovate because when China makes a knock off of your product you just see Sears or Walmart or whatever ordering the knock off version to save a few bucks. And by the time you're done with an endless litigation war you're basically poorer than you were when you started. China is a blight upon innovation.

Meh, I'm not a fan of copyrights lasting forever. Want to continue making money? Innovate.

Snow White came out in 1938.
That's 78 years ago. Walt Disney died 50 years ago. Screw Disney and their "intellectual property." Incidentally, I'm not sure what the current copyright limitation is for most countries in the world - I thought it was author's life + 50 years. It's time for most of those works to hit the public domain. If Disney wants to continue making money, let them innovate rather than continue milking someone else's work.

That's hilarious. That's what I love about China they can actually do stuff like that without getting in ridiculous trouble. While I think it may be going too far to actually blatantly rip off stuff, oh well, if they want to make their own Disneyland and make it seem authentic, then all the power to them I say.

Though there is a fine line when it gets to a point where it can mislead people, like for example if they make fake electronic components or other items and now you end up with all these fakes in the market.

You yanks are all fucking nuts.
And dumb.

The fairy tale of Snow White was written in 1812. By the brothers Grimm. I doubt they sold their story to Disney. But I guess once an American steals something, it's theirs, and nobody else can have it.

So if I take Darth Vader, put him in a new shiny dress, and still call him Darth Vader, I can now claim him as my intellectual property ?

In the wiki-article I linked, it says: "In 2013, the US Patent and Trademark Office issued a trademark to Disney Enterprises, Inc. for the name "Snow White"".

Maybe it's time for an American Judge to declare the wars against Vietnam and Iraq to be totally legitimate. And while he's busy, he can declare the US the firm and sole winners in those wars too ! US Judge said so himself, so it must be true !!

Cosplayers;
all they need is to not have them working for the park, and they're gold.

Disney should embrace this. With the costs of their theme parks so high these days if they form an alliance with Wanda to become a low cost Disney alternative then think of the potential profits.
