Well, there is that... but, there is a band behind that glass screen. And it's not really a hologram, just a projector hitting a special glass wall (which is actually even worse in the "let's watch this" category).

So, if you like the music, you are still getting a live band performance - just not a live vocal track.

But again, I wouldn't listen to the band even if they sang in English - even a terrific band, I wouldn't listen if the vocal track is 100% computer.

The band isn't the important part.

The vocaloid program, and Hatsune Miku, came first.

The band was just tacked on for support during the live show.

You're commenting about the bark of a tree and totally missed the point that the forest doesn't exist. It boggles my mind that actual concert goers paid money to watch a hologram perform. I always thought the point of a concert was to hear a group in person, ya know?

How is a hologram of someone any different than an actual person in a setting like a concert, where you don't get to meet/talk to/touch the person anyway?

It isn't like you are more attached to that person after a concert.

Plus the hologram was just the best physical representation of a computer program they can come up with.

They were pacified properly. Back then the US knew how to conduct a war, now our leadership is just a bunch of stupid weaklings who are incapable of doing what is necessary to win a war. Everyone knows this.

so is the hologram's movement/dance moves programmed or is there a person behind it?

What's next? Programs that create songs/lyrics/melodies???

The songs a lot of random artists have composed for Hatsune Miku are actually pretty good. Not only that, several artists and composers have hit mainstream by doing covers/composing for Miku.

I'm not sure whether to take you seriously or not. I would have thought the difference between a simulacra and a real human was obvious. Real human performers react to the audience. Real performances are two way communication. When did the 'youts' of America start believing that computers and real life were interchangeable?

They aren't interchangeable. However, unless its some small, local band, you don't get more communication with a real singer than with a fake one. Most communication is set up in advanced anyway. I.E. audience sings a big line in the chorus, etc.

At the end of this concert, you will have as much of a relationship with the holographic singer that you will with a real singer. It is very much like a laser light show, as somebody else said. It is just entertainment, so why does it matter in what form (human or otherwise) the entertainment comes in? Anyone who believes the somehow have a relationship with a performer after a concert is delusional.

Take it this way. If they replaced a real singer at a concert with an ultra realistic robot, you wouldn't know the difference and it wouldn't matter to you. Why? You don't know that person and you never will. You aren't intimate with the person. They aren't your friend. Therefore, it doesn't matter if they are even real. They are just entertainment in the purest form.

EDIT: Most of you guys don't understand that this concert is more of a celebration of community than a celebration over the artificial singer. A whole community drives the vocaloid phenomenon, and by going to this concert you feel closer to the community and can *gasp* make actual friendships with others.
