Help me resolve an problem with a coworker and fellow ATOT member. Should Lasagna have meat in it or not? I am not talking about your fancy lasagnas, just your normal everyday lasagna. He even screwed up his own arguement stating that a vegetarian would ask when ordering it at a restaurant if it had meat in it or not.

EDIT: Because he is saying I worded it wrong even though to me it makes sense. He says that the question should be, Does Lasagna normally have meat in it.

Don't know, but I'd reject any lasagna that used meat. Seems like the standard is sans.

Yes it has to have meat. Hot italian sausage to be specific. At least that's what my mom uses, and there is no other way to do it.

The sausage is served on the side in link form. As a man I no longer have a desire to have my food pre-cut into little bites. I eats it with my bear hands.

Where my family comes from (Southern Italy), Lasagna always has meat in it (Almost always ground beef, although I have seen meatball and sausage used). There is no such thing as vegetarian friendly food. Everyone ate meat and there was no question about it. Had a vegetarian friend visit my house one day and my grandma could not wrap her head around the fact that he did not eat meat. She later on asked me if there was something wrong with him. Now I have had some veggie lasagnas that used spinach instead of meat and those were good, but that's a veggie lasagna, not a regular lasagna and in my family we make that distinction.

Like the vegetarian, I would also ask if there's meat in the Lasagna, but with the opposite intention. The standard is irrelevant.

meat pretty much makes everything better. its reasonable to have a lasagna without it, but why would you want that?

Seems rather messy to me...

As for me, I prefer lasagna to have meat, but I will eat "vegetarian lasagna" as well.

Lasagna is just a pasta based casserole. You can put anything you want in it. Traditional lasagna is ricotta cheese, tomato sauce, and ground beef. However, you can make it with fish, vegetables, different cheeses, cream sauces, chicken, ect.

I always assume there is meat in the lasagna unless someone explicitly tells me otherwise.

Thank you. This was the post I was looking for. Most people have said they would have meat in it but that fact that you assume there is meat in one. Thats the point I am trying to get across.
