I was "about" to get Crysis on Steam--and I'm glad I didn't.

From what I read on the mod forums, the beta is being released compatible with Crysis, but the final release and subsequent updates will be for the the Crysis: Warhead edition.

I love Mechwarrior stuff. Mercenaries was my first multiplayer game (oh, the pain of dial-up)! I'll wait a bit after the beta is over, despite the temptation.

The steam deal is for Crysis AND Warhead together?

I would like to remind people that there is a 5 machine activation limit for Crysis and Warhead on Steam. "Machine" limit usually means a computer in it's current state, but any major hardware changes or OS reinstall/new install will count as another machine (even if you are using the same "box").

Some people do not like this, others don't care. Just to let you know, and please don't go off topic with a debate on "this is a outrage" or "why should you care?".

As long as Crytek provides a way to remove activations, which, it appears there is one, this is a non-issue.

Found this, I think on the MW:LL home page
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We know that there's been a few people that are having some troubles with the mod, so I started this thread to help.

**** Installation ****

To install, first make sure that your "vanilla" Crysis is patched to 1.20, then patched with the hotfix to 1.21.

Then,

Unrar the File named "MWLL-OpenBeta1.rar" with either 7Zip (www.7zip.com) or Winrar (http://www.rarlab.com/)

To do this, open the file in one of the programs mentioned above, then click "Extract to"

Make sure to extract to “C : \Program Files\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis”

Or If your using Steam, extract to "C : \Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\crysis"

Once You've extracted, navigate to C : \Program Files\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis\Mods\mwll\

In this folder you will find the MWLL Launcher.exe, right click this and click "send to > desktop (Create Shortcut)"

Alternatively you can add a " –mod mwll" in the target line of a shortcut to the crysis executables.

The target line will look like this “"C : \Program Files\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis\Bin64(or Bin32)\Crysis.exe" -mod mwll”

Next you need to install your actionmaps.xml to your profile in Crysis

To do this copy the file “example_actionmaps_for_joystick.xml” from your "C : \Program Files\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis\Mods\mwll\" folder

Then paste the file into your "My Documents\My Games\Crysis\Profiles\Default(and YOURPROFILE if you've made one)

Then rename your original actionmaps.xml to something different if you plan to play crysis again in the future, and rename "example_actionmaps_for_joystick.xml" to "actionmaps.xml"

**** Beta Tips ****
-Giving yourself a name in game-

When you first play online you'll notice your name is Nomad. To change this you need to go to the main menu, go to profiles, then hit New Profile, the name you give your profile is the name you use in Multiplayer. ( Remember that when you do this, you have to reinstall the action maps for your new profile like in the example above)

-Crashes-

I myself have had quite a few crashes and found that by following the instructions below, you can reduce some of those crashes.

If you experiencing crashes try the following:

Navigate to your "My Documents\My Games\Crysis" folder, and delete your shaders folder, by doing this, the cry engine will re-download the shaders for the mod. I find this helped to stop most of my crashes in game.

If your experiencing crashes before even getting in game try deleting your "My Documents\My Games\Crysis" folder all together. Don't worry this will be replaced upon the first start up of Crysis.

And remember to replace your Actionmaps.xml after doing this to not mess up your in game controls.

Loving this mod.

Performance seems to be a bit pants overall... though I think Crysis for me is running in DX10 mode which cant be healthy.

Anything can get ripped to shreds easily. On one map I was dominating with an Awesome Prime or C variant and a few guys supporting me in some vehicles and medium/heavy mechs. The 3 (or 4) PPC's really ripped apart the heavy/assault mechs the opposition were throwing around.

My most recent game, I took down a Light Mech in two separate instances with my Body Armour and a Man-pack PPC. Not easy to do and in one instance I had a Harasser decoy drawing the fire whilst I ripped open the rear armour of an Owens.

Vehicles are rather effective in the early game too with most of them being able to capably fight against light mechs and doing respectable damage against Medium mechs. Certan vehicles are meant more as support such as the Partisan AA vehicle or the one carrying two Arrow Missles.

Anyone capable of flying one of the air vehicles is capable of mass destruction. Scarily effective at ripping apart small vehicles and Assault mechs alike.

Overall, it's a blast and balance is ok. I just hope there are some Vehicle/Body Armour/Light Mech/Meduim Mech only games because for me, thats where most of the fun is to be had.

Even in late game vehicles are extremely effective. The demolisher for example can sneak into a fight (passive radar) and let rip with 2 AC/LBX 20's.

Armor has the advantage of having a low profile allowing it to crest a hill unnoticed (unless you use energy weapons as they glow) and you have more cover to hunker behind. Some vehicles also have more ammo. You are also low on the priority target list when in a large brawl, so you can easily maneuver behind enemy mechs and lay waste to them.

Sitting on the crest of a hill, behind a rock formation overlooking a hotspot for fighting using passive radar on a demolisher fitted with 2 gauss cannons I took #2 spot on my team in a 15vs15 map.

On a side note, be very cautious using a Mad Cat. Due to their fame it's the first thing most people shoot at.

Ha I usually say hammered like a Saigon whore on Chinese New Year but I like that one better.

Yes everything I download is taking forever because of the sale and so many people buying stuff. The only times I've ever had problems downloading stuff from Steam is on these Holiday deals and the day Half Life 2 came out.

Got it up and running, I'm really enjoying the mod. Now if I can just stop friendly firing my teammates.. No problems with eyefinity, it looks awesome @ 5760x1200.

One jet with two Tbolts (think cruse missile), size up tank that's been tearing up our aircraft, get a good lock and a friendly mech rams the tank, for about a second I say "OMGWTF YOU (&(*&^*^*&^&*^" and then fire. -1 point.

Don't feel bad, somehow I ended up with -450 points at one point in a match. Playing on the Gold server by chance? Are there any servers that allow customloadouts? I would love to create my own without using the prefab...

That's great!

Is anyone feeling like they're having problems with their sound in MW:LL?

In battle I feel like most of my sounds are missing.

My Review Thus Far-

Installation of the mod was a breeze if you follow the instructions. Pretty straightforward. The Actionmap switch probably could be stream lined...other than that, simple enough.

Gameplay itself is pretty good. Some of the maps are really good, and picking mechs/weapons vary depending on the map. For Instance, Volcano map makes your mech's core higher temperature..which means less shots for overheating...so typically you may want to pick a loadout which includes missiles and autocannons.

Ranking system could use some work...would prefer something similar to Modern Warfare or a point based unlock system that would allow mech's to be unlocked.

Custom Loadouts would be GREAT! You can do this with your battle armor to an extent but all Mech's come in 4 variants...would be nice to completely purchase Heatsinks etc for more customization..that's probably alot to ask though.

Definitely breathes some life back into the Mechwarrior franchise..maybe they can actually get a contract and produce a real standalone MechWarrior that they can build from the ground up and dedicate themselves full time to.
