If you're referring to me, nope, I haven't played it. My mechwarrior experience comes from three different games. One from the late 80's dos game that I won't ever remember the name of, Armored Core for the PS1 and a Mechwarrior game around the windows 95-98 era.

I'm not going to defend my ideas as if they are 'right' or 'wrong', I honestly don't care(especially since such a thing cannot really be measured). Good things can stem from ideas and imagination though, without that we get the same old game.

So if we want to keep this game true to its past as posts are suggesting, I really would like to know why adding new features and innovations would be bad.

I think it's funny how people will complain because game x is a clone of game y, then when new ideas are approached it's shot down because it's different.

It's called staying with the story and what is canon. It's like me going to a Star Wars game and asking why I couldn't add a star trek teleporter in the game or me going to a Diablo game and asking why they aren't adding a night elf hunter.

This is a Battletech saga that has lasted decades and the story has been fleshed out for a very long time through numerous games, novels, etc.

From what you have said, you've only played one Battletech game and it's from the 95-98 era.

However, I do agree with what you and others have stated about expanding the parameters of the game.

For example:

1. Allow people to join the Houses of the Inner Sphere or mercenary units. Start the game by dividing the map of the Inner Sphere up just as it looked in 3039 and give people the ability to assault enemy worlds. If certain objectives are achieved, the planet changes hands.

3. Make it known that eventually the Clans will invade and have them start as NPCs. Players will have to band together to stop the Clan onslaught. Eventually, with enough XP or credits, players can begin creating Clan characters.

They're doing similar things already and have had these planned for months.

Flying specialists(like helicopters and jets in BF3)(air battles would be sweet)
Let's get some water action, submarine-like mechs.
Drone deployers
Transformers?
A 'mechanic' class mech specializing in EMP weapons and such.
Repair mechs

lol. Gundam is that way ->

Mechwarrior needs to stay canon and armored core (great game btw) is NOT mech warriors. Armored core is japanese robots.

Right-o. I was unaware of this game's following.

Well the mechwarrior universe doesn't have just mechs, but a lot of other shit as well. I think it would be a lot of fun if they could implement other vehicles besides mechs at some point.

What about a multiplayer mission where one team has to escort a supply train/convoy and the other team is on the attacking sides. Depending on how the game balance is, maybe one side will have aerial vehicles or even those tiny battlesuits, what are those things called? The tiny human-sized mechs that were super annoying back in Mech2:mercs

Edit: oh yeah, Elementals.

I prefer they focus on mechs first and make sure they get it right, so that it is fun and engaging. Then when they get that right, add in clans, vehicles, aerospace crafts, power armor, etc. Bit by bit.

I would also prefer a star map where each House's territories are constantly shifting, determined by how well players are doing.

I hope this doesn't disappoint.

...

is it worth mentioning it is still in closed beta? have not seen a game released yet that gave all the eye candy out before the actual game was released.

as to the rest I take it you have not looked into the mechwarrior universe at all.

Other units exist, but who will want to use them. even in the board game/other versions they are weak to the point of being flies. Just moving weapons that take only 2 hits and dead.

Mechs can work in water, there is a whole weapon range / rule changes that allow it. Not expecting it at realse of the game as it would require a lot of changes including new maps.

Drones? no idea what you want with that. closest would be getting elementals but they will probably turn up with the clan invasion (not sure exactly when in the lore the innersphere created them).

Transformers not going to happen. Too many issues with IP conflicts. Heck, IIRC several Mechs had to be removed from the battletech/mechwarrior universe because of IP conflicts with mechs out of japan's similar walking machines.

EMP weapons do not exist in the universe. removed under some lead up to the development of the Mech's as nuclear weapons where banned.

I think there are some field repair mechs in the battletech universe, but unless running a hundred strong campain, no point in them or their offering "field repairs". The small squad battles that game is working towards to start with will be too fast to have them work and no one wants to part with a weapons platform with such small numbers in the team.

Though if you want to ask for those things and still want to compaire to WoT, how many of those ideas exist in WoT? not many would be my guess.

Air to air missiles? Point defense system?

given the tonages for the planes and tanks, it is not likly they will have them in enough numbers.

The air to air defence systems did not exist in the time the game is set (memory from reading the 3025 compedium of the game).

point defense systems did exist but generally was a crap system on a few grounds. One was it is only good against missiles. two was it weights a lot for it's function (a extra 2 lasers for one system). Three, ammo use for them was awlful. Even the best had what was considered "24" rounds of ammo per ton (ie: might shoot several bullets, but it was considered 1 "units" worth). Given the rules for it, it was possible that a ton of ammo might only allow the system to work for 6 missle attacks. A rather short time in a battle.

Anyone here actually play the tabletop game? Got my 9 year old son into it and an old gaming buddy just recently moved from being 2 hours away to 45 minutes away so I'm going to try getting in a game or two with him this summer.

There's also Megamek for playing the board game via computer.

Nothing like having table big enough so you have 2 RCTs going against each other.

tried one hoilday with my brother. setup time was painful and turns where too long for him so after two rounds, he walked off.

if you can get around that issue, go ahead. I would stick to the PC version personally, but you might find it more fun with the time / using it as a excuess to hang out with your son and your friend.

*swoon*

I got into BT in 3rd grade when i went over to a friends house. His dad was HUGE into it. Always had a battle set up on the coffe table. The maps he used were fantastic. Lots of detail and were fancy enough to be actual fold up board game boards. He had plastic VTOL's, Tanks and Infantry. Tons of painted minnies, and even more cardboard ones. It was fantastic. Sucked me right in.

I really wish i could find the old cardboard mechs (actual items or image files i can prin t off). they looked very 'military' and realistic. I like minnies better, but for the cost you cant beat the cutouts.

None of my friends play TT. Hope to get my son into it in a year or two. Havent played MechWars in a number of years. Just takes too long and those guys kick my ass. I dont think about and plan out every move the most optimal way. I just wanna get in and shoot.

sounds like you want the Crysis mod Living Legends. The game was good but not persistent and was just deathmatch. They did have tanks, aircraft, elementals and of course mechs. Check out Youtube for vids.

I swear this game though makes me want to find the nose cone of an old plane, take it and use some surround gaming to turn it into a virtual mech cockpit. Sooooo tempting I'm going to start planning....

yep, only a small following

battletech and mechwarrior are interchangeable in terms of units and lore. Not 100% sure why it is different but then the mechwarrior focus more on the battles than the background universe.

mechwarrior

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_no...%3Amechwarrior

just amazon searches, pleanty when you start looking around for it.

Mechwarrior is from Battletech Lore, the reason why it's called Mechwarrior is because that was the name of the first PC FPS mech shooter out of Battletech lore. MW1-current. There were also Battletech games where you command lances and stuff, but it's overhead view.

Kinda like you have different types of Star Wars games, like X-Wing/TIE Fighter, then you have Dark Trooper, KOTOR, etc. It all follows the same lore.
