If WOT has taught me anything, it's that idiots with enough perseverance and a credit card will overcome all sense of tactics and eventually end up with the best mech anyways. They WILL roll their faces on the keyboard until they get an Atlas and they WILL still be terrible and you WILL still need to carry your team.

And your Jenner will run circles around them and pepper them until they cry bitter tears. At least until he gets a single lucky shot and takes a leg off.

Already do that in world of tanks and I usually come out on top. If the other guy is terrible enough to let me circle them for 2 minutes, I usually win. Lucky shots generally has very little to do with skill, since if you're good enough to circle them, you should be good enough to avoid the big sharp things from being pointed your way.

I've never played World of Tanks, but in BT you can have weapons pointed in nearly every direction on a mech.

can anyone explain why the mechs have glass cockpits and why enemies dont just shoot thru the glass?

and if the glass is so tough to penetrate, why dont they just make most of the armor out of glass?

I doubt you can do that in this game though. That'd be fairly awkward to control from a FPS point of view.

Aesthetics. The WWII fighter/bomber look will not die. It is armored, though.
and why enemies dont just shoot thru the glass?
They aught to be able to. In prior MW games, that was the best way to get a one-shot kill. It's not so easy as it is in an arcade-style shooter, however.

The devs did confirm headshots, it will just be a lot harder then one would think imo

Headshots are difficult and by difficult, I mean very difficult in most cases.

Yes, we will see some people managing to drop some mechs with a couple of very well placed shots to the cockpit but these will be quite few and far between imo.

As far as I'm aware, the Atlas' cockpit is actually in the left eye of the head, which leads to an off-centre viewing position when piloting one.

In MPBT 3025 I used to get easy headshots with careful aiming with my Hunchback P, chain firing those med lasers.
You had to come close but the rewards were multiple kill battles.

Jaggermech sounds interesting, but it depends on whether it actually is able to perform its role. In the activision games a mech like the jagger would be neutered as the had that environment shroud obscuring everything beyond a couple hundred meters out to help the graphics engine. At times it was so bad that if they were properly encoded with the minimum range from the board game you'd be unable to shot at about the same time you got a good visual lock.

The Jagermech is primarily anti-light vehicle and anti-aircraft but with 2 AC/5's and 2 AC/2's, it has immense range. Pepper the enemy from a distance and you can chip away at them.

You should be able to partly obscure their view or knock their aim slightly with the volley of rapid fire guns.

IIRC one popular Jagermech variant uses Large Lasers instead of the AC's.

Kind of like in an armored car, there is the armor plating and there is also the reinforced bullet proof glass. It's not as strong as the armor plating but strong enough to stop multiple bullets.

Is there a place to see a list of the mechs revealed to be in the game so far? I'm hoping for the Awesome.

Iit should have massive range, but how willl it translate into the game as I said. Haven't looked at a damage CRT in awhile, but think the ac/2 had the longest range prior to gauss rifles coming in.

Actually, a lot of modern armor is made out of a type of glass. It is light and much harder than even armor grade steel. The issue is that it is also brittle, so you need to reinforce it on both sides.

most of the glass layers in modern armor tiles have been replaced with ceramics, and the fragmentation of those layers only deal with dispersing HE blast wave.

even if the cockpit protects against KE weapons, a transparent composite is unlikely to do much against lasers or radiation based weapons.

if the mechs are reliant on pilots seeing through windows, a bright enough laser without any heat effects should easily burn out the pilot's retinas.

Guys discussing cockpits, blinding, heat and other stuff...

It's Sci Fi, it need not make sense to be fun

Remember these are fairly small glass openings, primarily to give some manual backup vision or to allow for ambushes where the main systems are turned off so the mostly dormant mechs remain unobserved. Battlemaster with its two manned cockpit for c3 configuration is one of the few I remember that departs from this design line, and they really need to beware of DFA.

Also if memory serves shooting the arms of the enemy, as well as other weapon spots, was a very common thing to disarm them as soon as possible. I didnt get into MW a whole lot back in the day so I have a lot to learn and catch up on.

Edit: Gods help me I think I'm going to order a Legendary Founders pack later this month. Must...resist...temptation!

Disarming an opponent can be quite effective, as can shooting the hips (damaging movement servos), breaking L or R Torso sections (destroying a Mech with an XL engine) and other little things.

You could order Elite or Veteran now and upgrade to Legendary before they remove the possibility to purchase it. I bought into Elite then upgraded to Legendary.

You may wish to do it before the 10th of July which is when the next lot of beta invites is supposedly sent out to Founders only.

One way to limit ability to pinpoint shots is to open the battlefield up. Both by using modern computing power to increase the range of engagements and also by not having so many of the battles occur in cities (something mech pilots in thee board game world abhor).

I personally liked to shoot the legs. How is leg damage handled in this game? A downed mech in other mechwarrior games were treated as "killed" and you can't do anything afterwards.
