These balancing breaking changes have been happening ever since Alpha. The bugs in the game with terrible lag and problems dropping were there for months and months and are still there. They seem to fix everything but the things the alpha and beta testers told them to fix. So in the end the game today despite going through an extended alpha and beta really doesn't have any of the communities influence in it and I think that is why a lot of founders (like myself) are kind of annoyed. The problems, for anyone that has played it a lot, are unfortunately glaring and obvious and PGI are too pigheaded to fix them. Cannon isn't really the issue other than for the fact it was carefully balanced. PGI could choose another way to balance the game but unfortunately they don't seem to be responding to balancing concerns. I don't really know what to think of this game, its fun to play but you'll get bored pretty quick as there isn't all that much to do and you will be frustrated by the obvious bugs that should have been fixed a year ago.

in TT, double heat sink did double the work as a single heat sink.

At last check (have not seen any patches about it changing), double heat sinks in MWO do 1.5 and take up the innersphere standard 3 slots.

hardly a straight upgrade taking 200% more space for 50% extra performance.

The embedded engine DHS are actually 2x, outside they're 1.4x, and they multiply both heat dissipation and capacity. They are pretty much a straight upgrade over SHS, which itself is fine, but they're so far and away better than SHS running those just isn't viable.

Spider K with 4MG and a laser can do SHS just fine.

but it does do better with DHS.

Which is unnecessarily complicated. And that's been their solution to every balancing decision. They come up with some arbitrary unnecessarily complicated fix and don't evaluate how making that change effects other systems and over 12 months it has just dominoed across the whole game with bad balance.

The biggest reason you didn't see anyone running around with 10 medium lasers in TT Battletech (Clan Nova is the exception) is because while you do a lot of damage combined, it's spread all over your target.

In MWO, where you aim is where you hit. Weapons instantly converge on your targeting reticule and even the arms line up perfectly with the torso mounted weapons.

Rather than fucking with damage values, violating the laws of physics with "ghost heat," and other completely retarded changes, all they had to do was keep two separate targeting reticules for arm and torso mounted weapons then change the convergence speed of weapons so you can't aim at a target 700m away with every shot hitting exactly where you aim to targeting someone 50m away and all your shots instantly hitting exactly where you aim.

A fucking baby, pet rock, and two hummingbirds could balance this game better than the dipshits at PGI.

seems to be a love hate relationship with a lot of the players. I'm having a good ol time with the game, and have been for over a year now. Meta is mostly balanced again. Ultra ACs are the current flavor of the month, but will be "fixed" in a few hours when the patch hits.

Today's "launch" is a joke. Just a normal small patch with the wrapper of "launch" around it to attract attention.

Best thing about the launch? The community made video for it. There's some nice action in that and despite the game no longer being Battletech, the video has that feel and look of Battletech.

I'll just say there is a reason PGI has released a string of C- to F titles. Their whole dev style is a clusterfuck.

They talk a good talk but they don't seem to be able to walk it.

I played 5 gut wrenching matches last night. All Terra thermal. I fuking wish I had an option to not play thafuking map. I would love it if it was smaller

Yeah that map is pretty lame, and seems to come up more than the others. I even checked my stats and last week had something like twice as many games on Thera Therma as my 2nd most played map! Why? I like forest colony and river city, but those come up much less frequently (in fact stats say 1/3 as many games on those as TT..) If I try flanking it always ends in an 8 min lonely walk, before stumbling into the enemy team that has killed the rest of my teammates in the caldera.. Fun!

Complete lack of coordination is getting a bit annoying. Think I need to find a voice chat channel or something to join. Just would like some orders to follow, to coordinate a little. I don't even need to give any orders, I'd probably prefer not to actually. I'd feel dumb talking to strangers about lazors..
Joining the PA forum seems like easiest. I have Vent, but I need to join to get the password right?

Exactly one of the problems. And this is something that has been solved for several years in other games (Counter Strike, CS:S, even World of Tanks), by using a probability engine on top of the aiming reticule.

Say you are moving, well, your shots are going to be less accurate than if you are standing still, even less accurate when you are jumping into the air, or running over rough terrain. Wow, suddenly pop-tarting can't happen because your shot will never hit what you are aiming at unless it is 5 feet in front of you! Amazing! No need for ghost heat! No need to muck with damage values because multiple separate weapons would each have their own hit probability assigned to their aim, meaning the damage is spread out. No need to screw with heatsink values because you don't need to screw with damage values, which means you don't need to screw with armor values, which means you don't need to screw with ammo capacity, which means you don't need to screw with weapon-to-weapon balancing, which means you don't need to spend over a year trying to balance things and can actually FIX the REAL problems!

Yep. Pretty unfortunate and sad that they can't grasp this basic concept.
