The one article said that the single player game will be balanced for lean. I sure hope DICE has lean in the MP side.

Not if it ends up like the original MoH where players ran around with lean left/right bound to keys so whenever they moved forward they constantly leaned left and right. That was silly.

Medal of Honor Multiplayer Beta Takes Off on the 5th of July
Will last for about two weeks, according to an online retailer

The Medal of Honor online multiplayer beta will go live on the 5th of July, according to a pre-order listing at an online retailer. The beta will be available only to those who pre-order the game and will last only until the 17th of July, that is, for about two weeks. It will be accessible through a code that customers will receive when the pre-order payment is confirmed.

The online shop where first person-shooter fans can pre-order Medal of Honor and get in the future beta is Play.com. The full text that mentions the beta says that, "Pre-ordering Medal Of Honor from Play.com will give fans the opportunity to join the Medal Of Honor multiplayer BETA when it goes live on July 5th 2010. The BETA will take place between July 5th and July 17th - access codes will be emailed on July 5th. All pre-orders through Play.com will entitle customers to an access code. BETA access details are subject to change at any time."

Medal of Honor is a first-person shooter that will reboot the franchise, moving it to a more modern setting. Players will be seeing the war on terror fought by the United States’ military forces in Afghanistan. The title's single-player campaign will focus on both the big-scale operations the US deploys in the country and the small-scale-behind-enemy-lines mission that Tier 1 soldiers engage in. EA has consulted with specialists from both the sledgehammer and the scalpel side of the American army to ensure a realistic presentation of the conflict.

The multiplayer component of the game will be developed separately by DICE, the studio behind the critically acclaimed Battlefield series. The team is promising that Medal of Honor's online play will not be a Bad Company 2 clone, though. Medal of Honor is set to be released on the 15th of October on the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360 and the PC in Europe and is published by Electronic Arts.

Medal Of Honor Pre-Order Beta Begins July 5th?
Jun 10, 2010 at 10:20 AM - Andrew Burnes - 0 Comments
A now removed entry on Play.com's Medal Of Honor sales page stated that the announced pre-order beta was to begin July 5th.
Expect an official announcement at next week's E3.

Notice link in second article seems to point to the PC version of the game...

I'm of the opinion that anything is better than modern warfare 2. It had the most far-fetched, incomprehensible, and random story of any game ever created. Tetris has a better single player story than modern warfare 2.

I loved this trailer because it actually seems like they are going to try and make a connection with the audience through emotion. Not just replaying scenes from action movies over the last 20 years.

Dont know about the Medal of Honor game, but I agree with you about MW2. Such a good story in MW1 and MW2 was just a bunch of high intensity incidents thrown together, and was totally improbable.

This is crazy. So its two different dev teams and everything? How can this be cost effective unless single players is a glorified demo.

Easily?
Imagine you have one studio working on SP and MP.
Now imagine you have two studios, one on SP and one on MP. There's no reason that each team would be the size of the single studio in the first case, so it's not necessary for staff costs to increase. Other games have also outsourced MP before, so it wouldn't be a first. (e.g. Bioshock 2, Wolfenstein - using two versions of the same engine, Ghost Busters)

Engine wise, it makes some sense. Presumably DICE are happiest with Frostbite, their own in-house engine, so it only means one external license (UE3) which presumably was the main choice in the first place (since they are using it over Frostbite for the SP).
The only potential issue is assets which would need to be created/imported/made perfect for two engines, but one would assume the asset creation in 3rd party tools would be a shared process.

Thats what I thought at first and then I saw the part with the vehicle in it... and that looked just like BFBC2. Even the reloading animation for the sniper rifle is straight out of BFBC2. My guess is that it's going to be a BFBC2 clone with smaller maps, less vehicles and different class mechanics.

In typical EA style, gunclub.ea.com is overwhelmed and broken. I'm gonna guess you have to buy everything through EA.com to take full advantage of the benefits. Like getting in to the early beta. I have a $40 gift card from GameStop I want to use on my next purchase. Am I out of luck?

Anybody have any more info? Thx!

I just had a thought.

If EA doesn't give us some kind of Search and Destroy gametype they might as well not even release this game as competition to call of duty.

E3 2010: Medal of Honor Multiplayer Preview

Online death to infidels!

June 14, 2010

by Hilary Goldstein

Though EALA is doing the single-player for Medal of Honor, it's DICE (makers of Battlefield: Bad Company 2) handling the multiplayer component. While the expectation may be for DICE to offer up Battlefield's multiplayer with a different coat of paint, that's not the case at all. Medal of Honor's multiplayer certainly has elements of DICE's design heritage, but it's more about ground infantry combat. The battles, 12-on-12 online matches featuring special forces versus insurgents, are intense and brutal. You die quickly thanks to "faster bullets" as DICE describes it, and a lack of health packs. This is war. Good luck surviving.

You begin your online career as a U.S. Army Ranger, but progress up levels, unlocking new items on your way to becoming a Tier 1 Operator. And you definitely want to become Tier 1 -- that's when you unlock a beard. The beard doesn't kill, it just looks bad ass. On the way to unlocking a beard, you'll be opening up new modifications for your weapons. Weapons can support three mods, which can be switched out between rounds. DICE promises hundreds of combinations. Weapons will become one of the biggest variables in Medal of Honor, far more so than in more first-person shooters.

Experience is earned for completing mission objectives and for kills. There are bonuses for certain types of kills, as well as score chains. It's not just about getting a bunch of kills in a match, but in getting quick batches of kills.

Score chains unlock Tactical Support Actions. These are similar to Killstreak Rewards in Modern Warfare 2, but have some notable differences. The biggest difference is that you always have the choice between offensive or defensive support actions. Do you want to give your teammates armor or buffed health? Or would you rather call in a mortar strike? The decision could be tactical or selfish, depending on your point of view and the choice that's made. But it can certainly turn the tide of battle. And it's great to have a way to better your team rather than earn a couple of extra quick kills.

There are two modes available in Medal of Honor multiplayer, spread out over eight maps. Combat Mission takes you to the Helmand Valley, an actual location in Afghanistan. This is a series of objective-based missions. The one I was shown had us playing as U.S. soldiers attempting to destroy a large weapons cache. Our opponents played as Taliban insurgents hell-bent on stopping us.

The mission has five objectives. Your ultimate goal is to call in your F-15s to blow up the weapons cache. But you need to first take out some anti-aircraft guns. To get to these, you'll need to guide a Bradley tank past some obstructions. This includes a few roadblocks along the way. As with Bad Company 2, you can hop into the Bradley and have some fun destroying enemies. But Medal of Honor isn't really about large-scale vehicle combat. Don't expect to be flying helicopters everywhere or driving an army of tanks. This mission has a single tank, which your ground troops must protect.

The insurgents will have the upper hand in many areas. There are some places where they have the high ground and can dig in to protect their territory. Death will come quickly, but respawns are plentiful. Currently, there's no kill cam or way to see who killed you, which needs to be addressed before Medal of Honor ships in October. There is minor environmental destruction, so you can bomb out a house where a sniper is camping, but you might have to die three times in a row to figure out which house he's in.

In true DICE fashion, Combat Mission requires teamwork if you hope to beat down the insurgents and take out the weapons cache. Everyone can run around like independent jerks, which is exactly what happens when you get a dozen journalists in a room, but once this game is out, working as a team can only help.

The other mode is Team Assault, which takes place in the ruins of Kabul (at least for the E3 demo map). This is Team Deathmatch in the city slums, where players push to win a certain set of points on the map. The emphasis is on knowing the map and keeping on the move. There's a lot of vertical gameplay in this one, with two- and three-story buildings. As I said earlier, combat can be pretty unforgiving. But the reward for sticking with it is readily apparent. The better you get, the more easily you can unlock the Tactical Support Actions. These are a lot of fun and since you aren't tied to a specific set, feel more versatile than Modern Warfare 2.

Leveling up wasn't part of the E3 experience, but my sense is that unlocking weapon parts is going to become addictive. If there really are as many possibilities as DICE promises, we should see hundreds of different weapons on the field of battle.

Medal of Honor seems to be the perfect combination of Call of Duty and Battlefield: Bad Company 2. You no longer have to fight over which game is better, because Medal of Honor offers the best of both. If the full game is as good as the E3 demo, then this may just be the multiplayer game of the year.

There's a very interesting video interview also, so check out the link.
