My Political Science professor has been mentioning how excited he is about the wedding for past four weeks. Says he's going to record it and play it bi-annually for the years to come. He seems pretty serious.

The costume incident wouldn't mean anything if it were the only thing.
However, Prince William goes around giving speeches that are not reported in the media, nor do almost any of the attendees speak about. It's a British tradition thing. Some people have come forth and leaked Williams speeches and he is pretty far right wing. In fact, his little talks are described as "shockingly" fascist. I have been following this for awhile now.

I am guessing the costume incident was related to his political views.

And like you say, apparently fascist lovers run in the royal family.

Interesting, unfortunately hardly surprising though.

BBC probably has less coverage than CNN actually.

That's actually my point (just noticed how it would seem like how you interpreted it), BBC America News would be better to leave on than any of the US networks which have so much fluff and terrible personalities that I honestly can't figure out how people watch them for even 5 minutes.

Don't know anything about William. Are you referring to the Nazi party outfit incident?

The king during WWII was something of a fascist sympathizer.

Harry was the one in the SA outfit. He also earned the nickname Harry Pothead at one point, for his wild partying.

To the second comment, you're thinking of Edward VIII, who was briefly king in 1936. He's the only monarch of England to voluntarily abdicate. He did so to marry an American divorcee. In a visit to Nazi Germany in 1937, he met with Hitler and was impressed with the rapid "advancement" of their society. Had Operation Sea Lion succeeded, there was a distinct possibility that Hitler would have reinstated Edward as king, to ensure a fascist transition.

George VI, who was king during WWII, and is Elizabeth's father, was not a fascist sympathizer. He was close friends with both Churchill and Roosevelt. He had everything to loose if Britain lost the war.

who cares whether they're fascist or not? they don't have power and as the old die off every winter, less and less people give a crap.

The only way anybody would care much about anything I do is if I were to take a shotgun and let loose on a group of people or something like that (not planning to!).

Combine this with the royal wedding and I'll watch.

The cult of celebrity is ridiculous. Are people's lives so pathetic they have to get their rocks off by watching the lives of other people?

If I'm around a tv when the thing is going down, I'll probably check it out, but I'll more than likely get bored during the long precession and will turn to something else.

My interest in this is right at about the same level as the Oscars/Emmys and the Nobel Peace Prize announcement.

I'd watch it if they pre-release a porn.

Has there ever been royal porn before?

I think its time.

Weirdly, pretty much the only times I have ever heard about this wedding is on NPR's podcast Wait Wait Don't Tell Me. Why are Americans interested in this thing at all? (I'm guessing the OP is correct and the vast majority just aren't).

She sure is a cutie pie. Hope they have a long and successful marriage, but beyond that I don't care much.

American media is much more interested in the monarchy than the Canadian media is, according to silverpig's annals of anecdotal evidence.

She's not a queen yet...although she may very well be the Queen someday...The current Queen Elizabeth wasn't bad looking...60 years ago.

Harry's mom, Diana, was smoking hot in her day...before the Windsors had her killed to stop her from marrying an Arab.
She actually can never been truly the "Queen" since she isn't royalty. I learned this because my mom being Canadian is very interested in the wedding. She's been recording all these royal wedding programs.

Yeah, I was reading a BBC article today about how they are discussing changing some rules so that if this couple has a daughter as a first child she would be able in inherit the crown, and not a younger brother if one came about.

After reading a few estimates it seems some 500million or more people actually tune in for these weddings, so I guess that's why they are pumping it up. Probably helps some advertisers as well.
