Even that time they used Mediatek, plenty of phones had Dimensity 9000 but didn't sell well.

This graph show premium phones, as you can see there 93% of those phone don't use Mtk soc in their flagship, Xiaomi and Oppo majority of phones use Snapdragon, you have others with 4% and even that has likes of Sony, Asus, Red magic etc.

Damn. Do you realise the implication of this chart?

Apple is singlehandedly the only customer who has the sheer volume to help TSMC ramp up a new node. (Example: A17 Pro on N3B)

"Customer A" is about, what, 25% of TSMC revenue?
They're the 2 trillion dollar gorilla.

That's one interpretation.

The other is that they simply have the money to buy all that production volume at once before anyone else can get a look in.

Nvidia is into double digits now, and if they keep growing at current rates may become a bigger customer than Apple by the end of next year.

Dimensity 9400 leak.

Multi-core performance is good, but the power consumption is also concerning at a whopping 15W.
I mean. This is all about the curves.

It’s +50% for +15% performance, the 7300 @ 10W looks fine. The *full* roadrace mutli-core load will never actually happen in a smartphone like that without being throttled fairly quickly. What matters is the curve and actual use in games.

I am more concerned about the ST power curve for racing to idle, because they’ve been pushing this at Apple and Arm to where even if it’s still more efficient than last gen the peak power/thermals is getting worse.

Mediatek Computex 2024 Keynote;

Live right now.

We have this slide now:

48 TOPS form the NPU alone, 68 TOPS for platform. (Dimensity 9300+).

Should watch if they are announcing about their ARM PC SoC...

I am enjoying the Mediatek keynote more than I thought I would.

Btw, isn't it amazing how important Taiwan is to the tech industry? People will usually talk about TSMC when they hear about Taiwan... but Taiwan has so many other tech companies. Mediatek, Asus, Gigabyte, Asrock, Foxconn, Wistron, Pegatron, etc... etc...

It's like the Silicon Valley of Asia.

Mediatek managed to pull both the Nvidia CEO and ARM CEO to their Keynote.

Rene Haas (ARM), Jensen Huang (Nvidia) and Rick Tsai (Mediatek).

What a picture!

Geekerwan video on Dimensity 9300+.

Now with full power curves for both CPU and GPU, and with graphs for the new 3DMark Steel Nomad light test too!

Mediatek takes another win.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 series will be powered by the Mediatek Dimensity 9300+.

This is historic, because the Galaxy Tab S series is considered to be one of the most prestigious Android tablets, and it has only used Exynos or Snapdragon processors until now.

I don't know about prestigious, but they are certainly the only players left in the high end Android tablet market despite Google's renewed focus on that area of Android OS for a few years now.

As the OP of this thread, I have decided to rename the thread from "Dimensity 9300; The end of an era for the Cortex A5xx core?" to "Mediatek SoC Thread", so that henceforth the discussion may not be limited to only the Dimensity 9300, but also other Mediatek SoCs, such as the upcoming Dimensity 9400 and even Mediatek's rumoured Windows PC SoC.

The Dimensity 9400 is rumoured to have this setup:

1 × Cortex X925
3 × Cortex X4
4 × Cortex A725

Isn't it notable that it's using previous gen X4 cores as the "mid" cores, instead of a leaner version of the X925?

As a reminder, the 9300 has 1 "big" X4 core and 3 "medium" X4 cores.

This may be becuase ARM mandates that X925 cores within a cluster should have the same configuration. I checked the manual;

The Cortex®-X925 cores in the DSU-120 cluster must have identical configurations, except for the L2 cache size.
