My doctor referred me to a medical weight loss clinic. I am going to a group informational meeting next week.

Wondering if anyone has done something similar and what to expect?

I haven't done anything remotely similar, but I am curious as to what they will offer. I imagine it would just be a place where nutritionists, trainers, physical therapists, doctors specializing in weight loss surgeries and such conglomerate and can offer patients quick access to all those resources.

At the end of the day, you will still have to do it.

The way they are proposing is basically whole bunch of people telling you how to do it for a LOT of money (most likely).

Good luck

Went to a informational meeting tonight and yes, going to cost a lot of money (at least for me). Haven't checked with insurance yet, but it seems that most of it will NOT be covered. they have meal replacement options too, which also costs more money.

dunno if i should try to do one of the plans. I do need to lose weight and I don't think I can do it by myself. i guess it's one of those things where you can't put a price on your health?

Had bloodwork done last week when I was sick because they said they didn't have any of that on file for me and I'm at the age where I should start getting stuff checked. They said my glucose was high so they wanted me to come back in check again to rule out diabetes. triglycerides and LDL are high also.

had the bloodwork done today and got a message from the doctor's office to call them to schedule an appointment to discuss the results. I'm assuming that's bad?

What do you mean you don't think you can do it yourself? What have you tried before?

the only thing i tried before was cutting out soda and that lasted maybe 2 weeks.

apparently I have diabetes. so i have to take metformin and lisinopril. Will eventualyl have to take something for high cholesterol too.
have to test my glucose also. will meet back with the doctor in a month then.

Going to try cutting out the soda again. Need to figure out how to eat healthier too.

Step 1: realize it is going to suck, but you'll live through it. It will pass though. At least, the soda addiction thing.

This thread really has me scratching my head...

OP you are fat, you have diabetes, the only effort you've put into losing weight is to cut out soda for two weeks, and on top of that you are looking for a way for someone else to pay for the situation you've put yourself in.

Figuring out how to eat healthier isn't rocket science; all it takes is determination, consistency, and a little bit of reading. There's a fat loss sticky at the top of this subforum that states - pretty much word-for-word - what you are going to hear at a weight loss clinic. You don't need a special weight loss clinic to lose weight. You don't need meal replacements to lose weight. You don't need to spend a lot of money to lose weight. You don't even need to exercise to lose weight. You just need to eat fewer calories than you burn. It really is that simple. Instead of the large pizza or the bucket of fried chicken you are eating on a nightly basis, go for lean meats, fruits, vegetables.

I wouldn't go so far as to say some don't need them. Quite a lot of educational information can be had there in a hands on learning environment; which some people require to actually retain the knowledge that calorie counts matter.

And, even with that wealth of information, certain posters on this very forum maintain their bodies defy the laws of physics and that cutting their calories causes them to gain weight.

Read the weightless sticky and try and lose the weight on your own.

If you can't do it then go to the clinics. It's no point sticking to *the best plan* or doing a *plan* if you can't actually stick with it.

When your health markers are turning bad and it will start to affect the quality of your life you should take some measures to fix this.
