Medicare Scam/Spam calls

I use nomorobo, and generally haven't got spam calls for years, maybe one evey couple of months. Starting about a week ago I started getting Medicare Advantage calls, probably a scam, they can hardly speak english. Yesterday I got 16 of them, today I have already got 6, and it's only 10:30 a.m.

The kicker? I'm not old enough for Medicare, I'm in my 50's. WTF!
It's a Spectrum phone, and they have their own spam filter. but they put the call through anyways with the caller ID of "Spam Risk". how stupid is that? And obviously Nomorobo is missing them all together.

I know they like to scam seniors, but I'm not one. Is this happening to anyone else?

They spoof their number. I get scam calls about the Chinese consulate having my package. I am Taiwanese

I'm aware they spoof calls, but why are they calling me? I'm not old enough, and it's only Medicare calls.

Not in my contact list, my phone doesn't ring. If the call is somehow important(it never is), a message can be left. I get a handful of partial robot messages a year. I can live with that.

You could put your phone on silent-answer until those calls stop coming. That's quite a barrage.

Intra-Chinese distinctions do matter.

Taiwanese don't endear themselves to others....and probalby vice versa for other subgroups.
Biden said the other day that the US has a "one China policy." I haven't wrapped my head around that. How would the US react if the PRC attacked Taiwan?

16 calls so far today. They start at 6 or 7a.m., and the last I got today was at 11:00p.m.

This is on a Spectrum land line, so we have to turn the ringers off when we go to bed. And since the ansering machine plays my message at full volume, no matter where you set it, we have to turn that off as well.

It's ridiculous.

What's ludicrous is you have a landline with a physical answering machine.

I'm not a cell phone addict, had one from 1993 to 2006, I have no need for one now. My wife has one if I need it when traveling, and SHE insists we keep the landline. The answering machine is built into the phone base, takes no space. I have 4 phones in the house and garage too!

If I had a cell too, I'm sure it would just double the calls.

Enjoy staring into your little screen 24 hours a day.

Huh? Why would I need to stare at my smartphone all the time?

I have VOIP for the house and messages get emailed to me.

Spectrum IS VOIP. It uses the regular phone jacks that are in the house, and regular phones, including those with answering machines. No need for a computer or cell to check messages.

I have a "land line" that's just a wifi phone with Google Voice. I don't get spam on it; nothing like my parents' real landline did.

Enjoy staring into your little screen 24 hours a day.

As opposed to whatever screen you're browsing AT forums on?

I think I have two 4 phone systems in boxes in the garage. Each one has a built-in answering system in the base unit. For the first time since we got married in 1975, we DON’T have a landline.

I got rid of my landline in 2006 when I got cable internet. For the previous ~4 years, the landline only served as internet access. Aside from businesses, I don't see any point in an archaic system where you call a general area on the planet, and hope the person you want to talk to is somewhere close. Cell phones make logical sense. Landlines are senseless.

It's VOIP, through cable. Cell phones make no sense for HOME use to me. And at $15 a month, just a wee bit cheaper than a cell plan. And I can call anyone I want, no "long distance" charges at all. Why would they have to be close?

Anyways, the thread was about spam medicare calls, not phone types.

My wife gets a few spam calls (not medicare) on her cell as well, and the added benefit of spam texts too!

We both get the occasional spam call on our cell phones...not often though.
