Anyone know if this has an open PCI-E 16x so that I can add a better video card into it? Also any good/bad experiences with this Medion company?

Really tempting. I've been wondering whether to build or buy and these prices sure make it hard to justify building myself, especially with the 2 yr warranty. My only concerns are
-Can I upgrade power supply
-Open PCI-e for video card

Unfortunately, Aldi's doesn't usually have a display model, so I can't open one up to look at the innards.

Also, Aldi's doesn't take credit cards, so I can't get cash back and extended product warranty through AmEx.

Not to thread poop...but Dell has been running some pretty decent deals on refurb machines @ the Outlet. Check them out for cheap boxes too.

I just picked up the following rig the other day for around $550

XPS 410
Intel E6600 Core 2 Duo (the 2.4ghz ones w/ 4 meg cache)
320 gig HD
2 gig RAM
16x Dual layer DVD burner
Second DVD/CDRW drive
Nvidia 8300 GS w/ 128MB
13 in 1 media bay
Vista Home Premium

I missed the 15% coupon by a day. That would have been a sweet rig for $470.

If you want even cheaper, you can grab an Inspiron desktop like this:

Inspiron Desktop 531 Mini-tower: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 4400+ (2.30GHZ)
Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium

Not nearly as good a deal as the one they had back in 2002, which I jumped on.

EDIT: And what the heck is wrong w/ Vista Home Premium?

Nothing a service pack can't fix.

Heck, there are still people who use Win 2000 Pro because they hate XP. Same old story. Why change when the old one works fine? When it stops working, then change.

The RAM suckage, the security 'features' and if you're gonna do an OS the Home version is generally the suckest. And like Zap I know folx who still still run 2000, and a few who run Win98, cause they are comfy with it. I like XP Pro myself....

Usually Aldi's has limited supply and it's first come first serve and they usually sell out as soon as the open the doors....last time they had a system for sale they were sold out in a flash.

They are also selling a 19" widescreen LCD IIRC for $169.99

There is a PCI-Express slot though, surely. Can anyone confirm the motherboard this thing comes with?

Wow, I never even thought of that....
I bought a Medion a few years back and was very happy for a while... then the PSU fried after about a year and I replaced it with an Ultra.... then the motherboard went. The video card was next. But I know another guy who bought 2 for his house on my recommendation and they still work great for him. I use my PCs 24-7 and burn tons of CDs so I prob killed the PSU and the motherboard was prob futzed by the PSU going bad. My current case has an exhaust fan on the back and another on on the top of the case blowing straight up through a port on top and of course the PSU fan.
