At $80 per steak, the sides will more than likely be $15-20 or so a pop. Things like Horseradish or a butter for the steak $5-10. If you don't do an appetizer or desert/coffee at all then $200 is probably possible. A simple soft drink will be in the $5-10 range. And most places at this level will have a 20% minimum service charge.

I have not been to a place where a steak hits $80 for a single person. This menu is from The Forge in Miami which has steaks around $50-60 a pop. http://theforge.com/menus/the-forge-miami-main-a-la-carte-menu.pdf

Morton's (which is probably more well-known) is also only about $50-60 for a steak, they are more reasonable on their sides because they are made for sharing and they don't charge for every little item.

An $80 steak is going to be a very expensive meal unless you are just going for that steak.
I have never been to a restaurant that charged $5-10 for a soft drink.

Also, if you're getting a $80 Wagyu, it is either a single bite or not even pretending to be anything other than fake.

depends, usually if it's referred to as Wagyu or American Kobe, they are referring to Wagyu that was bred in the US ($15-20+ per oz) When it is called Kobe or Japanese Kobe they generally mean the specific Wagyu strain in japan which can be hundred $ per oz.

Then you have places that just flat out lie.

I actually think CUT and the steakhouse in the Wynn casino in Vegas are the only 2 places you can actually get Japanese Wagyu in the US

they only allowed people to import/sell it this year

Luckily for you I HAVE been to a place with >$80 steaks. BLT steak in DC being one such place.

http://www.e2hospitality.com/blt-steak-washington-dc/dinner-menu/

I had 4oz of the Wagyu striploin. It was $100. The sides are $8-12 drinks were I think $3 for soda. Also, when you get a steak this expensive, you generally aren't paying extra for sauces, it's included and you have a choice of 8 different kinds or none at all.

tldr, you are talking out of your ass.

lies, you would have brought it up already. Wagyu and special cuts are outside of what I am talking about.

Killen's also has a $100 4oz filet

that's not what we were really discussing

im sure you could get Human if you looked hard enough

You're discussing kobe and the fact that it was not legally obtainable years ago

and i'm saying that despite it's illegal status, you could find it years ago if you knew where to look, which is similar to the current status of foie/whale in CA.

now granted we can all agree if you're getting kobe steak for dinner @ 19.99 that's BS, but if you were at some invitation only restaurant and paid $500 for a meal, that 2oz of kobe in front of you was probably real.

Did I say anything other than steaks? I am speaking only about USDA cuts. Almost all 'steakhouses' have a fake japanese steak for $80-100.

yea im aware of that article, but its 10 months old so I assume CUT can now as well as they list it out as coming from japan. Don't think Puck would take that risk at his restaurant to fake it

The article also mentions that several other restaurants would start serving it soon, so I imagine that is what is happening.

Yes, you did say anything other than steaks.

And, $80 will get you maybe 2 ounces of actual Kobe, which is bite sized at best. A lot of places require more than that to begin with (4oz minimum is what I've mostly seen, although, I have seen 2oz minimum).

Anyone charging you $80-100 for a Wagyu steak is giving you "fake" Kobe. Now, that doesn't mean it won't be high quality, but it ain't Kobe and it is likely not even pure Wagyu.

Besides, Kobe isn't even that great. I would take the same cut of Prime Angus over Kobe, given the choice. It just tastes better, IMO.

The $85 isn't "legit" in the same sense that sparkling wine made in California isn't champagne. But even then, it looks like prices have come down for real Kobe beef (the 8oz rib eye is just under $20 an hour, which is like half of what I'd expect it to be).

Anyway have you been to Bern's in Tampa?

Hard to say, a lot of very high end restaurants have faked this for so long.

I have not been to Bern's, but our office in Tampa goes for meals...down here we get to go to Morton's during a group dinners every few months.

No one has put up a true restaurant with $80 (normal steaks) as average. Even Bern's you are averaging $50 a steak there. That monster Porterhouse is about as close to $80 as it gets

It's hard to pull up any menus for places that I have been that would average about $80 for just the entree as those places usually don't post prices. I don't eat at those types of places myself.

Most of the time if I am dropping $50 on a steak (which I do time to time and it seems to be the going rate across the board at most of the high end steakhouses), by the time we both have a salad or soup, appetizer to get started. A side or two with our meals and at least one dessert with tip we break $200 with tax and tip. That's not counting alcohol. Beers usually run me about $7 a piece, my girl drinks mixed drinks or a wine that's usually about $12-15 a drink. In the course of a nice dinner with drinks, we will hit right under $300.

That said, I hit the Breaker's Ocean Grill quite a bit for a nice set of drinks/appetizer and watch the ocean with some special people in my life. Parking is $40 alone...they do comp you that much in food/drinks though on the property. I still ended up spending $20-30 on top of that for just an appetizer and a few drinks/beers. The Flagler Steakhouse comp's your valet parking, but just a couple french onion soups you are over $30. The hot dog on their menu is like $20. They really kill you on drinks there though.
