I am sure some have a 6oz in a filet, but the only 6oz steaks I usually see are at the TGIF's style places like Roadhouse, Longhorns, etc and that is mostly to right size the pricing of the menu to lower budgets that still want a nice steak...they will even have 6 oz lesser cuts like sirloin.

I can't help that you go to poor quality restaurants. The steak houses I regularly frequent have an 8oz filet at one, and a 6oz and 10oz at the other.

8oz is probably the most common offering, but 6oz is not uncommon at all for higher end steak houses, especially on aged USDA Prime filets.

Apparently, NS1 posted the menu for a TGI Fridays earlier, as they have a 6oz filet (and a 7 and an 8) on the menu.

read the quote you just quoted of mine.

I specifically mention these smaller cuts being at TGIF type steak places, but not typical at fine dining type steakhouses.

Please enlighten us about the restaurants, I am sure somehow these need to be kept secret in your world.

(this is actually to Alky but he's on my ignore so I can't properly quote him)

once again, a high end steakhouse that has 2x6oz, 7oz, 2x8oz, and 9oz on the menu.

Bern's also offers a 6 oz filet. However; Bern's is like the butcher's steakhouse, they will cut almost anything your way which is cool.

Puck's restaurants IMHO are glorified tourist traps.

wait, $20-40 steaks are TGIF pricing?

http://www.anniesdc.com/pdf/DinnerMenuWinter2011.2012.pdf

Guess I haven't been to TGIF in awhile, can't remember them being that expensive.

That whole menu is about the same as a typical 'Fridays' in pricing. The steaks are about $6 or so more apples to apples, but everything else right in line.

Probably closer in price to Roadhouse/Longhorns which are in that same class but consider themselves steakhouses.

The very first thing on the menu is "Fried Clams • 5.95." Might as well order chicken nuggets and french fries.

I only go there for the steak, never even had anything else from the menu besides the Filet, Porterhouse, or the Prime rib.

Given that the raw material cost of a prime aged steak is ~$15-20/lb, yes.

I never said it was prime aged steak, I just said it was the steakhouse I go to most often.

Also, TGIF doesn't even have a porterhouse or a filet.
