I forgot about Spot(in pic) and Blackie(not shown). They aren't exactly /my/ cats, but they spend a lot of time here, especially Spot. They were both catch/releases. Blackie's completely feral, but Spot's friendly, and particularly likes me. If she knows I'm outside, she comes over meowing the whole way. I feed them in the morning and provide water. I also have a shelter setup for winter. I just fed my kittiots, and she was sitting out back making me feel guilty. Policy is morning feed only. I want to keep her motivation for hunting up. She's a very good hunter, but sometimes gets stuff I don't want her to get.

This is an old good picture of the pack, when Kate could still see.
From front to back, Kate the chihuahua crossed with the devil
Cricket the runt of a silken wind hound, roomie's dog.
Russer is a jack. Jacks are gonna jack.

Cricket was so timid she about crapped herself when our two played.
Katie recognized the situation and slowly taught her how to growl and play properly. It took a while.
Now they are all gray and old, and Russer walks like an AT-AT in fast motion half the time. He just stumps around.
A more recent picture of faded
dogs helping my brother nap. They might be friends.

5 weeks ago somebody dumped this little guy out on the road and he spent all night barking outside our window, desperate to join our pack. He ran away from us but I kibbled him in and we got him into shape. Fleas, UTI, still had his nuts. We took care of all that

he is food aggressive and also growls at our other dogs trying to get near us, but we are teaching him pack manners.

If the other dog is up already he is good.

Love everything you wrote.

The new dog is going to love the hell out of you. That first picture is awesome, tail is in motion. And yes, there is nothing better that taking a nap with a dog blanket on.

This is Katie's intensity when Cricket met her. She sat between her people and anal glanded on our loveseat!

Ball dogs are so helpful when digging post holes.

Kate and Russ we rescued when they were 3 and 5 and we are their 4th and final home.
Russer is older and raised Katie up from a puppy very roughly. Her job after that was to make him pay. She is smaller, but she won every toy battle by never giving up. That intensity freaked timid dog out.
So imagine this, a dog who never gives up or loses. She started giving Cricket lessons.
here is a win for you, little one.

This progressed to advanced growling lessons

Russer playing through : I'll just take this blue ball thanks

Now that Kate is blind, she has a hard time getting started playing. She wants to know what she is biting on.
I forgot to mention Pigpig, the street cat from NYC who was not adoptable. Roomie took her on.

Melvin (ginger) and Magnus (black). Got them from the shelter in July. They're pretty much at home now. It's pretty entertaining having two, they keep each other company and play together too.

What did you really name them? Conspiracy and Theory?

I am a firm believer in the fact, if you have one pet, you have two. They entertain each other.

This is Barley. Barley is a Plott Hound, who was most likely used for bear hunting in his previous career. His age is estimated at 14 or 15. We have had him 6.5 years now. He was a complete unknown when brought into the shelter, needed some dental work, and was neutered. Plus, the shelter had given him a stupid name, so we had to name him. He didn't know his shelter name either, so not an issue.

He had spent 3 months in the shelter after being found out on a remote hiking trail. Signs that his life to that point had not been the best. What caught my attention at the shelter was that when staff walked a puppy by his cage, he jumped up and got down in play posture. When we first saw him, he was sleeping, but as we were heading to the parking lot, the staff happened to walk the puppy by him. He came home with us.

He was very reserved, unsure about most men, but at least house broken. We had to teach him to be a pet, vs. a possession, but he is now completely spoiled. He's not a love bug, but very sweet. And, as per his wanting to play with the puppy at the shelter, loves interacting with neighbor dogs on our walks. When meeting older dogs, he's calm, but if the other dog is young, he bounces around like he's still a puppy.

We have black bears that come around frequently, and he completely loses his mind. Wants to take them on, and has somehow came away without a scratch, as he was just too quick for the bear, while biting the bear on the butt as it went over the fence.

Unsure how long he was on his own before hikers found him. His weight was good, but he is an amazing hunter. Walking him on a leash, he's interested in something along the side of the road, in a wooded area, strikes like a snake, and come up with a chipmunk. Kills and eats it before I can barely react to what he is doing. Other furry prey has had the same fate, all while he's walking on a leash. Voles and bunny's and who knows what.

That's more personality and skills than the typical human!

The more people I meet, the more I like my dog.

But yes, he has a lot of personality, and learned he is free to express it. It was sad that for a long time he would flinch if I reached out to pet him. Took a long time for him to learn to completely trust even those that feed and cared for him. Today on walks he greets people without much reserve, though he still prefers "his kind", i.e. other dogs.

He plays every evening with his favorite toy (we load it with treats, and when he bats it around they fall out), probably his first toy, other than a stick. We tried different toys, until my wife found this, and he loves it. It is quite rewarding to see this old hound get real joy out of playing with it every evening. Wife loads it up after dinner while I walk him, and he comes loping across the room to attack it.

Last night we were watching television with the window open and this little Siamese kitten came up there and introduced herself through the screen.
We think there's a secret sign out in front of our house telling all stray pets that we are a stop on the underground pet railroad. We were able to rehome her in record time and she is at a new family already.
Now all we have to do is find that pesky sign!
