It's been insisted that it's not necessary however I enjoy giving gifts and usually have an idea but this time round I'm clueless!

Bringing a gift is an excellent idea.

Flowers for mom - no roses, just a 'generic' bouquet. Trim the bottoms and put them in a vase so she doesn't have to fool with them right when you show up.
