Megalodon: Discovery channel sucks

They just showed some horrible fake video footage where they try to say it's real.

I know Discovery and The "Learning" Channel have turned into dog pile, but is it actually getting worse?

This is turning into the reason I don't watch TV.

1) TLC and Discovery should teach us something. Anything.
2) 8-9 PM should be family programming.
3) Commercials on at 9 am should not have me wonder if my 9 year old should see the commercial.

I remember around the early 2000s, I used to really enjoy the Discovery Channel for its educational stuff, then it started turning to shit. The History Channel held out a little longer, until they started running more and more bullshit, like Aliens Du jour

So I'm a professional scientist, somebody who would likely be in the target market of the so-called "Discovery" channel. My wife is an university professor of history who has had colleagues on that channel as subject matter experts. One would think that both of us - a viewing household - would be fans of Discovery Channel.

Neither one of us can stand the channel - a channel we would otherwise likely be a target market for. However, I guess we aren't. The target market is idiots.

Yea, this is about as believable as the "Mermaids" show from last year, a total hoax. Then here's the Uboat footage, look at it at :12 seconds in, it's the EXACT footage without the giant shark, another steaming pile of crap from what used to be a premier cable channel.

Yea, those two are good shows, the duct tape episode alone was gold and Fast N loud is usually a fun show too. Sadly, Discovery just takes away from their legitimacy as anything based on real science with "Megalodon" and "Mermaids" and let's not forget "Beasts of the Bayou". History channel has also slipped somewhat, although not so much with fake monsters excellent shows like "Dogfights" or "Modern Marvels" or "The Universe" have gave way to "Ice road swamp truckers" or some other shows about people living in the mountains and how harsh it is in the Alaskan wilderness. After watching some of the creepy people I'm beginning to think a lot of rural Alaska is inhabited by people with active arrest warrants out on them LOL.

You'd think so, but go to the ghetto and they all have satellite dishes.

Discovery is dogshit now for sure. I remember when the whole "shark in Lake Ontario" went down. Kingston Police weren't too impressed with that stunt after fielding numerous calls from concerned citizens.

The shift happened in around 2008 with the Recession and the Writer's Guild Strike. Ad revenues plummeted and have remained soft ever since. There just isn't a desire to produce higher budget niche programming anymore.

It's simply a case that reality TV is a lot cheaper than scripted television. Cuts out the unionized writers and actors from the equation. I remember reading that Honey Boo Boo's family doesn't get paid very much. Probably the case with all the other crap shows on there. Production crews are probably quite small as well. A lot of those shows use a two or even one camera setup. They require minimal editing. Which is why they can be produced so quickly.

Something like Megalodon appeals to the lowest common denominator. That program only served one purpose, to get people talking about Discovery.

I don't watch much TV at all. The only TV I watch is Game of Thrones, Black List and occassionally Doctor Who.
