Honestly this is what should have happened the morning after the questionable speech. This is what any normal Politician would do and its perfectly acceptable even with some questions unanswered.
I guess Hill Clinton is not a normal politician. Back in 2008, one of her closest supporter, made racist comments about Obama. I am talking about Geraldine Ferraro. Ferraro made this comment.

If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman (of any color) he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept.

Hillary didn't fire her. In fact Hillary's PAC paid for racist comments in a commercial, where it was asked if Obama would pick up the phone at 3 in the morning. I'm sure all of us remember that.

It wasn't until Ferraro let it pile higher and deeper, by a follow-up comment.

Any time anybody does anything that in any way pulls this campaign down and says let’s address reality and the problems we’re facing in this world, you’re accused of being racist, so you have to shut up. Racism works in two different directions. I really think they’re attacking me because I’m white. How’s that?

That's when Hillary had to cut Geraldine loose.

I'd bet good money that this "staffer" had absolutely nothing to do with this speech, and this is all made up to try and put this story to bed. My god Trump is really bad at this politics thing.

Its not the politics thing. Trump is really bad at the take responsibility and admitting screw-ups thing.

Yep....and that's most likely one of the major reasons why he appeals to so many people.

You are overestimating how hard it is to appeal to a bunch of Republicans. Not just Republicans, but the least educated/most ignorant segments of the Republican party. All you have to do is go on stage and say what criminals Hillary and Obama are. Let's not forget, Trump is the self-proclaimed leader of the birther movement.

Oh the birthers. Trump wanted Barack Obama's birth certificate and college transcripts.

Turns out, he lies about his own wife's college degree. I bet Donald didn't ask for a transcript when he met her.

I know of 16 people who would likely disagree with you.

Hey, somebody had to emerge as the king of the shit pile. Being a popular TV personality probably had more to do with his win than anything. We are talking about the fucking party of Reagan as you know. Honey Boo Boo's mother probably would have done pretty well given the chance.

How come the resident Trump Boot Licker did omit the following line from the news report?

"A person she has always liked is Michelle Obama,” she added."

This statement flatly contradicts what has been said by the campaign up to this point, that the similarities are mere coincidence because of the supposed commonality of the language. Given that a staffer now admits it, these statements were clearly dishonest. While this kind of smacks of someone who already knew she wouldn't be fired stepping forward to be the scapegoat, it's what they should have led off with rather than the implausible denials.

Correct. The lame denials were a mistake so time to double back and find someone to take the blame.

And I would agree with you. However, I'm a little perplexed as to why so many liberals have suddenly become so very concerned about honesty and transparency. lol

The same reason for 90+% of the outrage you see - politics is a team sport sadly.

Take this episode as an example. You had people literally parroting the line that it wasn't plagiarism with excuses like "no one owns words".
emperus, there are a lot of stupid people in this world. Some who say stupid things and others who actually believe their shit don't stick.

Sure, both sides are more apt to complain about bad behavior from the other side than bad behavior from their own. Meaning that this sort of hypocrisy is something which can theoretically be observed in every single case. The logical conclusion to this line of logic is that no one has any right to complain about any bad behavior from the other political football team. Which changes nothing about the particulars of this specific story. It doesn't make what the Trump campaign did any better or worse. It's really just a deflection.

It's probably similar to why so many conservatives who have lambasted Clinton for her supposed dishonesty have enthusiastically embraced a pathological liar that easily puts her to shame in the 'dishonesty' category. They never cared about honesty, they cared about finding reasons to dislike their political enemies.

For most people politics is like rooting for a sports team but even less rational. Generally sports fans may have some bias but are self aware enough to realize that while they may prefer their team over others they are not actually the best/most skillful team. Sadly this is not the case for politics for the most part.

They got someone to fall on the sword as expected. It's kind of weird to me that she claims Melania really likes Lady O and gave this Meradith person lines from Michelle's speeches but she didn't check anything? Isn't that part of your job as a staff writer...to make sure there is integrity in your work? Guess not.

Sure but we're talking about 2016 Malania's speech that had elements of pluralization.

Supposedly the writer is just her friend or something so it's a bit amateur hour. Some credit to them for finally being reasonably honest about this, or at least making sense.

I never said that no one has any right to complain about any bad behavior...I just see moral outrage over nothing of any real significance in this particular case.

This happens every time we have an election. One of the candidates or a relative, gives a speech, media outlets analyze it, and find lines taken from other speeches.

Then we have a lot of hot air blown around about how bad it is to do that and how stupid the speaker is and how silly the campaign is, etc.

Then the media comes up with examples of it happening over and over again.

Then everyone forgets about it.

Until the next time.

Lather, rinse, repeat...
