I believe Melania actually wrote the speech on her own and doesn't comprehend the idea of plagiarism. Yes, she looks just that dumb to me.

I think she mainly re-wrote the speech herself. I'm not calling her dumb, but only someone unsophisticated in writing would think using paragraphs from a speech that was given by the last first lady at a similar convention would go unnoticed.

Isnt this effectively common practice?

White House: Obama didn't plagiarize speeches - he was 'inspired'

Everyone’s criticizing Melania Trump for her speech at the RNC, but LOOK what Obama did….THREE TIMES!
http://ilovemyfreedom.org/everyones-criticizing-melania-speech-look-obama-twice/

Michelle Obama Plagiarized Her 2008 Democrat Convention Speech From the Denzel Washington movie John Q (2002): "When you say you're going to do something, you do it. Because your word is your bond, son. It's all you have." So Michelle stole it from a movie script. (Fast forward to 2:10)

From what I've read, she refused to work with the original writers in making the speech her own. She doesn't know the meaning of plagiarism. She's a typical model, dumb with a huge ego. It's a good thing she married a rich man. Melanie is no one special.

Also, why are the Trump's using the same narrative that the Obama administration used, "change"?

Because Obama is a Harvard grad that has given many speeches before. One or two inspired speeches doesn't overshadow his speaking skills. As for Melania, this was her big shining moment to show the world that she is more than just a trophy wife. She failed and the world laughed. She's dumb but at least she's attractive.

Difference is Obama apologized and then gave proper credit. Trump said everyone was a liar and it wasn't plagiarism. Then sent his lap dogs out to spread the message only to make them look like fools 24 hours later when the speech writer said it was plagiarism. As stated before, the response typically means more than the grievance.

Yeah, most multilingual people are well know for being dullards. /s

It's a different standard outside the US. It's not foreign for people to speak there own language and their colonizers language. Ex. I speak my native tongue and English (and am semi fluent in French and read Latin as well ). But seriously everyone I know from my country speaks at least 2 languages (their native tongue and English). Some speak 3 or 4.

In fact every woman I've dated since college has spoken at least 2 languages.

LOL if you believe multilingual people are the best, you'd be a socialist retard because most them are left leaning Europeans and Asians.

Americans can only pronounce Enchiladas correctly.

Precisely. I think the media implicitly feeds these kinds of false equivalencies, and frankly most of the electorate is not paying enough attention to tell the difference. I am not a fan of Hillary Clinton, but she is by any objective standard a highly intelligent, experienced candidate. Donald Trump is a populist demagogue who doesn't even pretend to understand how our government works, much less know how it should work. He has never read a biography of an American President. I find it incredibly depressing that he is a major-party nominee for President - it really feels like Idiocracy come to life.

And this sanity will be largely ignored because ... P&N.

“I am neither surprised nor troubled that he used the words that I asked him to use of my own,” Patrick said in an interview Tuesday on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

I didn't say they were the "best" (best in what way?), I said speaking multiple languages isn't something dumb people can generally do. There's plenty of Americans that can fluently speak Spanish and every other widely spoken language on the globe, but please, continue parading your ignorance; it's amusing.

I lived through Nancy Reagan and Hillary as FLOTUS. I have not been a fan of First Ladies since then.

No, they are not a "person of importance". They have no authority nor responsibility aside from the ceremonial.

Do. Not. Care.

Fern

Tend to agree. I wasn't really a fan of Nancy or Barbara. Hillary was OK to me in the sense that, at the very least, she wasn't just "Staying home to make brownies for the boys!" in the manner that has been traditionally expected of First Lady. E Roosevelt was the same way and especially as ex-FLOTUS, she became a huge, huge figure.

I do like Michele Obama though. childhood Obesity is a complete disaster just waiting to destroy healthcare costs and productivity over the next several generations and it's a complex individual behavior / monied interests clusterfuck of problems that will never be easy to balance.

No, there are not. You, the press, and seemingly most everyone else have zero idea what constitutes "fluency" in a language. As I said before, it is quite difficult to be simultaneously fluent in just two languages, let alone 3 or more.

People may have some working knowledge, to various degrees, of multiple languages, but nothing even approaching true fluency.

To be truly fluent in just one language is almost a lifelong task. In two? Use both or recede in one. In more? You'd have to continually speak all those languages every single day to achieve and remain fluent. There aren't enough hours in the day.

By your standard, I would be able to say that I'm "fluent" in German, French, Spanish, Greek and English, because in my life I have held extended conversations with natives in each of them. I'M NOT. Not even close.

Enough with this bullshit. I'd love to see someone approach Melania and try to engage her in French. It's just like the college degree she claims she has but doesn't. Fluent in five languages my ass.

I'm not saying there aren't things to legitimately criticize the right for, but it really appears that *some* on the left will grab at every little thing, or even make stuff up. Seriously?

Oh, and that song they played during one of the breaks at the convention, My Sharona, which had delegates dancing in the aisles.
Yeah well, "that song is about having sex with an underage girl".
And another song played, Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline, was written about Caroline Kennedy, How dare they!

Thanks for demonstrating that fluency in one language is challenging enough for most. Perknose's interpretation of your ambiguous sentence was legitimate. Be more precise next time.

Or you could try minding your own business. It made perfect sense in the context of the conversation I was having with openwheel. Your and Perknose's inability to properly parse my statement is not my concern.

What on earth are you even talking about?
My wife speaks 4 languages. (And yes, perfectly fluently as she's lived for much of her life in countries where each of the languages is spoken. (English is actually her *least* fluent language, yet she could probably ace you or me at an English exam.)

My kids already speak 2.

Many people I know of speak multiple languages. Outside of the US, it's not only possible (DUH) but fairly common.

My wife and I were concerned once with our first child not picking up english fast enough, as he was much more fluent in my wife's native tongue- we wondered were we handicapping him in some way living in the US, so we asked our pediatrician. (By the way, the pediatrician is fluent in multiple languages). She told us no worries at all, kids can easily pick up up to 6 languages at once from the earliest ages, their brains are just wired for it. Learning multiple languages- not only not harmful, but good for a kids brain.

Only an American who's never met many foreigners could possibly think knowing several languages is any big deal.

Damn! And it looks like Hillary's one too! WTF is this world coming to!
Got video links to those? There is a difference between a still photo of someone waving and the video showing Ingraham actually holding the salute for a moment directly toward Trump.
