During Melania Trump’s speech in the Rose Garden of the White House, when she was earnestly expressing sympathy for America’s 180,000 covid fatalities and telling us how her husband’s administration is doing everything possible to end this horrible pandemic, I couldn’t help noticing her listeners, including Trump and Pence themselves, packed in there, with no real social distancing and not one wearing a mask… I’m curious to know how that attitude is going to help end this pandemic?

Also importantly, public officials set an example for people. I suspect a significant portion of right wing opposition to mask wearing is a direct result of Trump making it into a culture war issue.

I guess the main reason I care is because what I saw was the kind of behaviour that's already helped kill far too many American citizens, and is going to keep on doing so if the people who claim to be in charge, and getting on top of this continue to ignore all the simple common-sense ways to reduce the spread.

Drunk driving:
Why do people care about drunk drivers? They are adults capable of understanding the risks involved. If they wrap their car around a tree, it's their fault. If they live, we are closer to a society where people have higher tolerances and are more functional while intoxicated.


If you support that sentiment then you are at least consistent. If you don't you should examine your hypocrisy.

I was really surprised that while she was telling the world how wonderful Trump was, he was sitting there with this angry scowl on his face. He only smiled when the audience cheered. In any case, the entire speech seemed hypocritical from someone who refuses to even hold his hand when coming down an airplane ramp.

I am thoroughly impressed with how the Repub Party has separated itself from reality in order to cling to Trump's fading chances of getting reelected. Pence is just waiting on the miracle he says is coming any day now. Athough he has been tasked to spearhead the response to the pandemic, he simply put his feet up on the desk and claimed it will end in a miracle, and soon.

Apply that same logic to virtually everything people do that kills them. Over eating, drinking, poor diet, driving a car, taking a shower, the list is endless.

Your failure to see the the differences between example and yours indicates I probably shouldn't even engage...

Anyway, like drunk driving, being reckless with COVID kills others that are trying to stay safe. Asymptomatic people can spread a deadly disease. Doctors are dying from it, and perhaps fewer people being stupid means they wouldn't have. So again, being reckless with COVID is more likely to hurt others than oneself.

I apologize for not explicitly stating that before. I thought I was already being overly blunt and obvious.
