Have you given the astro a40's a go? They're a bit older now with the a50's out, but I find they're a good mixed headphone between gaming and music, though I prefer IEM's for music.

Get Audio Technica or Sennheiser, Sennheiser. Its within the +/- budget range but its well worth it. I highly recommend getting a sound card or DAC to get the most out of these headsets.

I've demoed the Roccat Kave, which was good if the media is surround compatible but lackluster when it does not. I wouldn't consider the Roccat Kave to be a particularly high quality product since they do use more lower quality drivers than to use two large, good quality drivers. The static that you've noticed is the sign that the volume is pushed beyond what the small drivers can handle.

No matter what quality an electromagnet is, it will only move when power is applied. The static you are describing is coming from your source.

They're a bit out of my budget, especially since I'd have to buy a sound card too/DAC. Is there anything a bit cheaper that you could recommend? Speaking of which, I'd be interested in sound card/DAC recommendations as well, in that case. Something that'd provide me with natural sound (not extra bass, which seems to be popular, or extra treble, etc).
You can get the Sennheiser G4ME ONE that I mentioned. Its the cheapest option of the three and you should be able to get a sound card with the remainder. An Asus Xonar DGX would do just fine, although a proper headphone sound card like the Asus Xonar Essence STX would definitely be better. You don't have to get a sound card for the Audio Technica that I mentioned as it comes with a decent USB DAC.

If you haven't already bought it, I found the G4ME One gaming headset on sale at Amazon.

Retail price is $249, Amazon has it at $189.

Holy crap that looks like an awesome deal. I would jump on that right away. Use the 3D processing from a sound card or onboard sound, and you are good to go.

It is an awesome deal I was going to buy the G4ME One headset myself, then I realized I didn't need another headphone set lol.

You're very welcome. Let me know if you buy it and if it's good (haven't personally tried out this one, so want to hear about it).

Also, sorry I couldn't find a deal on the DGX board. There weren't anything past retail.
