I have read multiple reviews on them, and found that bottom line, if you take care of your cd's and don't expose them to direct sunlights or high temperatures, irrespective of who made them they should run fine for many years. Plus, I remember reading that the CMC/Ritek take almost 20 years to get to the point where the data on them may be so corrupted/lost that you may not be able to use them (once again also dependent on how you treat them). This is just my guess, but in 20 years most of us won't be using these cd's that we burn, they will have been replaced by something other than dvd's even. I have floppies (the 5inch ones) from almost 10 years ago that I will never use.
Maybe it's my ignorance, as some may want to call it, but I don't see the big difference.
Guess you have been having better luck then I have. I made copys of cd's of the local asian gift/music shop which are actually cdrs themseleves just to ensure that they are safe w/ riteks and I have kept them in a case in my house(no sunlight/heat/water etc) and in about 1.5 years they are now begining to skip/clicking and its not one throughout the entire cd its about 10 clicks per track! I even treat these cdrs better then I would treat my kids if i had any
On the other hand I use TY on my liteon to backup my anime and they've lasted so far except for the ones I burn at 40-48x which corrupt the sounds by messing up the timing.
Well I just got back, and luckily for woman that tried to cheat me she wasn't there. I only got 200 discs but it was nearly impossible getting them. The person working the phone at officemax wouldnt admit to the price of the cds were $10 and so the CC manager kept trying to tell me that they wouldnt honor the pricematch if officemax didnt honor their own price. I had him call again later and he got the same thing. After a bit of convincing by telling him I know people such as my brother have been getting it for $10 at OM he finally gave in and gave me the 110% of the difference. All in all it came out to $15.02 hehe not bad at all $.07 / cd. He also didnt seem to care about the limit either so i really should have grabbed more but i think ill give beast buy some hell next.
My memorex are labeled 40x and nero reports that they are TY which i already knew, since it had "made in Japan" right under the upc., its worth the extra effort to see if they are TY i think.
If you get the same problem as me, I suggest you have the manager call another Office Max.
FYI Boulder, CO Circuit City has about 8 more 100 pack cakes that are TY, and the OM in Boulder has only Riteks... I checked.
