There's a reason why this drive is onsale. I own this drive a while back and am not statisfy with it. Why? because it couldn't read it right I mean 48X transfer way slower then may Asus 40X What the hell? It also make rumbling noice after a couple of months. If you have CDRW drive and you want to do direct copy good luck you will have under run buffer. I give this drive no star.

I ordered one of the Delta 50X cdrom's from Staples a few weeks ago that was free after the $20 rebate and $20 off $50 coupon...I wish now I had ordered two of those, it's actually a pretty good drive...

A warning, I have this drive and it is LOUD. I'd say the near equivalent of a 120 mm high output fan. I mean it is LOUD. I no longer run my mp3's off CD because of this drive. I always copy first to hard drive because I can barely hear my mp3's when this thing is spining!! I'm looking to invest in a slower drive.

Onvia.com has the drive for $43.77 with free shipping, so if you could get Staples to ignore the fact that the free shipping isn't next day and also ignore the rebate, you could potentially get it for $3.77...but I haven't decided if it's worth the hassle of dealing with a CSR for $6.23...

you know what, the drive doesn't match my 120mm fan hehe.. that thing takes over the entire room.. even w/ the window fan ON! But yes, it's loud, but read cdrs fine for me.

Does anyone know what speed this drive supports for digital audio extraction. I have an 8x burner, but my current no-name drive only supports dae at 4x. Would this one support 8x? Thanks.

Fellow Anandtechers, I recall somewhere seeing a utility which would force your CDrom to a slower speed, assumedly this would cure the loud problem for things like listening to mp3s and such. However, I don't remember A) where I saw it B) if it'd work for this drive or C) what it was called. Maybe one of you can shed some light?
