I called my local OD. The price is 249.xx, so I guess this clearance
really depends on your local store. Am I right?

Ask them to check for item #675312. They probably checked the newer version which is 4x not the 2.4x that most are getting.

It's definitely not local. Check the website. When you go to checkout, choose in store pickup and it'll say discontinued $79.04. You people paying $79.99 are getting ripped off!!!!!!!

Damn I already Thrown out my box Crum!

If you guys can use a coupon for $$ off $75 that would make this the best DVD burner deal ever if you can find it.
I wish other stores had it so i can PM.

just got THREE more at another local store (Puyallup, WA), they were even marked at $120, i have no clue how they lasted so long. gave her a Staples $30 off $150 printable, got out the door with three drives for $225 after tax. one for me, one for guy at work for $90, one for brother for $100, and one for ebay for a bit more so in the end i get a burner and pull a small profit. not too bad for me

Was the package sealed or was it previously opened. Mine has that little round sticker covering it.

i had noticed the little round thing had been opened while i was checking out. i popped the box open, saw the drive and box in there, so i was satisfied. never in my right mind would i have thought somebody would have swapped the drive.

im going to give them hell tomorrow, because one of their employees is either really retarded and repackaged something wrong, or he's a little theif.

heres the weird part, they were kind enough to include the little packet with the CD burner cable and manual as well

grr, and the store i went to is an extra half hour drive too, i didn't want to have to do that again

It was probably a return that someone swapped out to fool the cashier. I've seen $200 fax machine boxes come back with mildew-covered $30 faxes from ten years ago. You always think it's shady when the guy buys and returns it in cash, then you check and boom - busted.

if thats the case, isn't OD required to sell it as an open-box item?

Bought 2 today at the local OD for $79.04 each minus 12% staples coupon I found so they came to $75.02 each after tax. I then went to staples to PM OD and they had their on clearance for $189 (not the $299 listed on their website). They did a 110% PM and then applied the 12% coupon for a grand total of $64.78 for the third one I'm happy!

Man I always miss out on these deals

Is anyone willing to sell an extra one? If not, I guess I can wait a couple of months for another deal like this to come along.

Went to Office Depot, and they had 2 here in W. Palm Beach on Okeechobee Blvd. (1 left). Rang up at $79. Tossed them net printout of cart with $15 off $75 coupon, and after some convincing from me, sales clerk reluctantly applied the coupon.

Scored one at $64 Thanks so much; we needed one to get home vids into dvd format

well i went back to OD today and told em about the CD burner fiasco. it happened to be the same lady who helped me yesterday. she too was memserized, the manager was amazed too, and was even mad that one of their employess put return merchandise back on the store shelf. they were amazingly nice about it, and gave me a comparable I/O magic drive for the same price (it originally rang up at $137)

Anyone having problems with this drive? I am trying to do a test burn (~400mb) in nero to the dvd+rw that was provided with the drive but after a few seconds it says "Illegal Medium" and stops.. I tried erasing the disc but it says it will take 2 minutes and after 15 seconds it finishes and then says "Illegal Medium".. Is the drive bad? Is the dvd+rw disc bad (I'm putting off trying a +r disc since that's the only other discs I have and don't want to make coasters)...

I got lucky and got one of these free from Office Depot because it rang up at 1 penny, something to do with it being moved out of normal inventory for a sale but it hadn't been re-entered into the computer yet. It's a good drive, I've burned quite a few movies with it, not a single coaster.

Apparently the free thing happens at OD all the time. I was talking to the lady there yesterday and she said a guy came in and bought 2 PCs, they rang up at 1 cent, so he got both PCs for free! Lucky SOB. I actually picked up an HP Jornado 565 yesterday for $49 myself, it was the display model. Nice little color PDA, been looking for one.
