There is a firmware fix if you are haveing issues on 4x media check memeorex website.

The media I was testing was the media given to me in the box with the dvd+rw.. I also bought some fuji 2.4x today and those have the same problem.. Tried both with and without the new firmware.. Even tried 2 different memorex dvd+rws.. Can't figure this out

If your still having problems then you can send it in for warranty replacement.
Maybe a few months before other dvd burners can be had for in the double digit range. so returning it may not be a good idea.

Not that anyone cares, but I tried 2 different drives with different firmwares with different burning programs with different media with different cables with different hard drives with different aspi layers and some other stuff and could not get it to work. I put the drive in a differnet computer and it works fine.. I put it in another computer and it works fine again.. I put it in yet another computer and it still works fine. I still don't know why it didn't like the first computer I put it in but it's now working in a dedicated burning box which I had to pull out of the closet and set back up just so I could burn because all the other computers it worked in are not easily accessable (servers). I'm very happy with the drive and have done 12 data dvds with no coasters. Haven't tried a video one yet but I expect similar results...

I found a store in L. A. that had three in stock, but the price was $229.99 even after I ask the guy to scan the drive to check the price it was still $229.99. It must be a regional thing.

Looks like the Ricoh is up to firmware version 1.64, wonder if the memorex will follow soon.

Read the thread. Muliple people (me included) bought it for $119, used coupon to bring it down to 99, when price dropped, got pricematch from 119 to 79. Final price: $59.

Apparently the free thing happens at OD all the time. I was talking to the lady there yesterday and she said a guy came in and bought 2 PCs, they rang up at 1 cent, so he got both PCs for free! Lucky SOB. I actually picked up an HP Jornado 565 yesterday for $49 myself, it was the display model. Nice little color PDA, been looking for one.

And these are the same stores that are concerned about getting "ripped off" by us (legit) hot-deal hunters, when they take the biggest losses due to their own stupidity? *me shakes head*

Edit: Btw, is there any way to work this deal, for those of us in MA? (There are no Office Depot stores in MA, Staples and OM drove them out.) Does Staples carry this same drive? Will they PM, if the price in question is a "clearance" price?

I took mine back to the store on Saturday (purchased 2 weeks ago for $119) and told them I understood that the price had dropped and asked them to check it in their system. They checked and gave me the $40 credit with no problem at all.

1 if I can use a online coupon at the store

2 if not is there a coupon online that works for in the store because so far I have only found online only coupons when I search.

What sucks is that I called OD CSR and asked if they honor the discounted price instead of the online one. They said its two different things and they can't honor a price thats in store and match it online. Another thing is these drives are being really hard to get since its being offered at such a low price.

I emailed Memorex a few days ago about the newer firmware available from Ricoh. I said that the Memorex version is at 1.51 and that Ricoh now has a 1.64 version available and asked if they could contact Ricoh to get an updated version to distribute on the Memorex website. Here's the response I got back:

The drive string we have for that drive is 1.51. Please do not use the 1.64 unless we post it on our website.
