How long did it take for them to respond? At least they answered back, but I would have like more info also.

I'm interested to see if there's a overclcok for this drive.

yes that would be cool if you could find out, i got one of these and its a high quality AOPen drive, this would be a good one to get more of

Why's everyone excited about installing new firmware. the RICOH website shows that the drive will only burn at 2.4 X WITH the new firmware installed

I'm not concerned with overclocking my drive with the new firmware, I just want to have the most stable drive possible, regardless if it is 2.4x or 4.0x. So if Ricoh has released an update, then they've obviously fixed something.

Memorex only took two days to respond. The second response came within an hour. : ) But they guy said there are no plans at this time to get the 1.64 update from Ricoh.

I just wanted to pass on a little blurb about the Iomagic drive for $137. They are selling this same drive at Circuit City for $199 minus a $50 rebate, so if you could get them to pricematch the $137 you should be able to get the drive for $83 after the mailin rebate.....


***Another little note*** If they somehow drop the price at Officedepot down to some ridiculous price within the 30 day pricematch period at CC, you might be able to get this drive for really cheap....

Called 3 of my OD places and they tell me they can't tell me the info sicne its not in their computer. One guy was nice enough to let me know the computers are updated on Sat. So I'll check next week. Also since the price is .03 cents probably tells them that it won't drop for some time. I'll keep everyone updated.

thanks for the headsup spliffstar69 grabbed the one that was left at a local OD that had it listed at the old price of $200ish ..had the guy pricecheck it..$137.03 combined it with a PNY 256MB 2100DDR stick(got an Infineon-7) and tossed a $30 off $150 Staples at it... just burned 688MB mixed data CD in 7:13 on a TY Memorex..its ided by Nero and AIDA32 as a Phillips DVDRW6002 (using a 2.0 USB connection)..but for $115 taxed

yes ...I bought the I/OMagic for a system build ..finding the Memorex is a big ymmv ..CC wouldn't PM to the clearance price they wanted to factor in the MIR..$187 ..bleh

According to the DVD Firmware page, the AOpen 2.4x is made by Ricoh, which is also the same drive used by Memorex which this thread is about.

Since it's the same drive but almost $60.00 more, I'd wait until the price comes down before you rush out to buy it (unless you can get a price adjustment later).
