I've been using one of these for about 6 months. Never had a problem with +RW, but I made a lot of +R coasters until I discovered that you need to set the "book type" in NERO to "DVD Rom". You may need to download the latest version of NERO to be able to select this option.

I picked up another one today as a backup; store in Franklin, TN still had one left. Good deal at $119.

The sony suports both +R/RW and -R/RW. And it's a Sony...
$169 for that drive is pretty darn good. it is on sale now at CompUSA at $329 or $299. Can't go wrong at what you got it for.

As for the 510 vs the 500. That rewrite speed is only for DVD+RW the minus rewrite is still only 2x. And I am guessing that this is a software upgrade so that you may be able to flash the upgrade the firmeware to unlock the higher speed on the older model. Could be wrong though.

Has anyone managed to find one of these in Northern VA, The 2 OD's I have checked seem to have the memorex dvd+rw drive but it comes up as $299.99.

Am I missing something or is there a different version that isn't clearance, or are OD very regional in there clearance offers.

Well I grabbed one, YMMV seems to be more to do with how retarded your average OD sales assistant is.

I had them pull the same drive at another store and they scanned it at $299.

Another store told me they had none in stock, I then asked if they had any Memorex dvd drives and they went to look and said yes, just the one. I ask the price and they come back with $199 I ask them to double check and tada $119.03.

Alls well that ends well I guess but it was pretty frustrating. Still a very sweet deal even without the $20 off.

If any of you are having problems updating the firmware like me (winxp recognizes drive, can burn fine, but Memorex's firmware app doesn't see drive) update your aspi layer from Adaptec. Following the update, the firmware was updated successfully.

just scored the last one at University Village in Seatltle. rang up at $120. added some memorex DVD+R media (buy one get one free) and some headphones and used staples printable $30 off $150. total was $130. gonna go back in tomorrow when the price changes to $80 and get $40 back. so in the end i'll get all this good stuff for $90. yippee

Those are the 4X memorex drives. You're looking for the 2.4X. The 4X is $229, as the guy mentioned.

Just called a couple. Two stores had none, the third store had some but at $189. I told the guy the price I was looking for, he checked the sku in other local ODs, came back to the phone and said, "You're in luck." He's holding one for me @ $79. I'll pick it up tonight.

Has anyone had any luck using online coupon codes with these? I have a $20 off $75 code, but will they take just the code in the store?
