Hi, All,

You maybe asking isn't this the same lousy MPD8505CP?

It is the same model; however, the one I bought today has a "suffix A" on the label. I checked the manual. I think this "suffix A" makes it an improved version of the original model. A brief summary about its MP3 properties:

MPEG rate: 32 - 384Kpbs
Sampling Frequency: 16, 22.05, 24, 32, 44.1, 48 KHz
MPEG 1, 2: Layer 2, 3
MP3 Playback: ISO9660 format compatible

I tried several MP3 CD-R /RWs I made. They all played beautifully. A complete car kit comes with it (I like this).

Best,
Tsuwei

I may not have gotten one of these, but I am very happy with my rio volt, you can play asfs, real player and other formats. Plus it is upgradable. Great procut. Also just my .02 cents worth.

Does anyone know if there is a car kit for the Rio Volt (or the AVC Soul player)?

I'm thinking about getting one for my car, but not too sure if I can get a Car power adapter.

I had a suffix a version of this player. It still skipped a lot. It's good if you REALLY need a cheap way to listen to MP3's from CD, but be ready for numerous pauses while in play (even if you aren't moving). I ended up taking mine back and got a Rio Volt to replace it. The Volt is excellent.

it uses the standard small plug 4.5V like other cd players so you can get one anywhere

I have the D-Link MP3 CD player. I actually had to exchange it once because the first one skipped consistently. The second one is still working flawlessly. It's a budget mp3 cd player so do expect some cons:

1. No ID tag support.
2. No Anti-Shock memory in MP3 mode (how ridiculous)
3. Songs encoded at higher than 192kbps (ie 320kbps) will play "funny" (half skipping, half in slow motion)
4. Batteries only last a couple of hours, three at best. The batteries that come bundled are NOT rechargeable.
5. It plays well in a Camry or anything with soft shocks.

Problem #2 is really annoying if you are not using it in a car.

I would not recommend it. You are better off spending $20-$30 more and get the Soul or Rio Volt! If you are really on a budget, then you might consider. I bought mine quiet a few months ago, and I had known the pros/cons of the D-Link, I would have waited for either the Soul or the Phillips Expanium.

Hey, Arrow21, I didn't know the Rio Volt could play Real Audio files. Does it need a firmware upgrade?

Hmmm.... I saw the same thing on the Real Player files. I have a Volt and "hang out" at mp3.com portable forum a little bit (where they talk about the Volt a ton), and that's the first I've ever heard of that. Are you sure that's correct?
