memories.... or, 'which ram to buy'??

Sorry for the corny title. Anyway, I'm buying some ram now cuz it's so cheap, and in a month or so when I build I don't have to pay thru the nose. I realize all about the difference between cas2/cas3, pc100 and pc133, etc. My question is very simple. I plan to build a 'cheap' Duron system for myself, and i want to buy pc133 'generic' ram. I've bought GIGAbytes of cheap pc100 ram for SS7 systems, and only once had a problem. Is there any reason that generic pc133 cas3 ram wouldn't work on a Duron mobo? Since the FSB on the KT133 chipset isn't very o/c friendly, the ram should never have to exceed 133. Any other reasons to have to buy high end ram???

Some generic ram have compatibility problems. It's a true fact. But most of the time it'll work. What you want is ram decent enough to make 133Mhz and CAS2.

Kingston Value ram with Infineon chips are great and cheap.
Avoid Kingston Value using the Nanya chips.
Twinmos is ok but current batch doesn't cut it at CAS2.
Infineon 1st party is good too.

I guess I should stop being such a cheap bastich..... It just kills me to see PC133 ram for like 50 bux. I get greedy and want to buy a truckload of it, but I've never used the stuff on a Duron board, and that's the only reason I really need it. I have ALL of my pc100 ram generic that I've bought at 2-2-2, so I always figured the higher priced ram was for the Intel Idjits that go for like 150+ Mhz on the fsb. <sigh>

I just bought 256MB of Micron -75 RAM, (rated at PC100 2-2-2 or PC133 3-3-3, I don't know if it will do PC133 2-2-2 as my board is a K7M so I only have PC100) and it cost me $245 canadian! That's less than 1 canadian dollar per meg.

That's like 60 cents US per meg.

And this is good brand name (Micron) stuff (there is also -7E that will do PC133 2-2-2, but i just went for the -75)
