Memory Failure?

I am using the Asus P5B-E with 2GB Buffalo Firestix DDR2 800. Here is the thing:

The first time I put the two memory sticks in the slots, it gave me the memory failure. The second time I put the memory in different slots, it worked. Then, I added a Linksys PCI slot to it. I turned on the computer again, and it gave me one long beep and three short beeps, which is the memory failure. I tried putting in different combination of RAM in the slots, but it would not work, no matter what I did, it gave me the memory failure. The thing is, this is my second set of Buffalo Firestix. (RMA'd the others)

I was told that since I wasn't using anti-static strap, it could have messed up my RAM, do you guys think this is the problem?

ive never worn an anti-static strap to install RAM, but i make sure i ground myself first by touching a metal part of my case. never had an issue. did u ground yourself while installing?

Nope, I never knew I had to. Do you think this could have caused any other problems in my computer other than the RAM? I guess this will be my 2nd RAM.

im no expert but i know it was stressed to me years back that before i messed about in a case or made a build to ground myself by touching an unpainted metal part of the case before touching pc parts, including ram.

it definitely can cause shorts if you dont, especially if youve been walkin on fuzzy carpets or are wearing fuzzy clothing made out of wool, etc, etc there are a whole bunch of things that make you build up a static charge more. i never built on a carpet either.

Well, I'm going to RMA the RAM, and hope nothing else got screwed up.
