I am ordering an E6300, P5W-Deluxe and X1900XTX I need to know what kind of memory I can get for a good overclock. I am honestly looking for best RAM for the price. Price/Performance is important to me. Some of you are asking why I am getting a x1900xtx when price/performance is important..and thats because I get a major discount through ATI and get it brand new for around 200 so its a fantastic deal for me. Anyways, I do plan to overclock this little guy doesn't have to be anything HUGE thats why I went with the P5W over the P5B.

Actualy since you are planning to OC..the 965 chipset boards seem to work better with the E6300 and E6400, as they tend to reach higher FSB limits than the P5W and other 975 chipset boards. It depends on how much you want to overclock. I am using PQI Turbo 667mhz with mine, but I'm using an E6600. The P5W does have a ram divider thats less than 1:1, so if you reach a FSB that is too high for the mem you could use that divider.

Given a choice between Micron, ProMOS, Infineon, Elpida or some other IC's on your RAM PCB's you almost certainly want Micron chips for the best speed/timings/voltages.

If your intended RAM manufacturer doesn't specify what kind of IC's they're using, there's probably a reason (dogmeat of the week?).

Your best bet in getting Micon D9 chips is probably Team Group memory - try TankGuys.biz here in the USA. Crucial is the retail outlet for Micron but I've noted that other brands using Micron IC's seem to get slightly better speed/timings/voltage than Crucial themselves does. The suspicion is that Micron offers it's highest quality and most valuable IC's to third parties (Team Group, Corsair, OCZ, etc) before keeping what's left for themselves to sell through Crucial. Not that Crucial is bad - at least you're sure of what you're getting.

The bummer is that DDR2 RAM is in a huge price bubble right now (AMD's AM2 platform combined with the recent Core 2 Duo rush).

Note that to get 3.15GHz out of your E6300 (7x multiplier), you'll have to run a 450MHz clock which will require memory capable of running at DDR2-900 (PC7200) speeds to get the most efficient 1:1 clock/RAM ratio. That will likely cost more than having spent the extra $40 for a E6400 (8x multiplier) which runs at 3.2GHz on a mere 400MHz clock (thus running cheaper DDR2-800 memory at 1:1).

Man Clones yeah you hit it on the head there. It's what I've been scratching my head for weeks about with the changes in DDR2 prices. It's no longer worth to get a lower CPU to save a few $$ when the price premium of getting DDR2 RAM to hit speeds that allow OCing is gona cost yah.

In fact I am going with a e6600 to get as high as a multiplier as I can afford. However it's still a pain that practically all DDR2 RAM (2x1024) is simply freaking expensive. Even the no name stuff my local vendor has is expensive. It drives me nuts that we are back to the old days where honestly your RAM ends up costing you as much as pretty much most of the comonents of your computer.

100$ a MEG?? remember that.. dang 486.

Don't get a 975X mobo + E6300
You'll never get your max outta the chip, as 975X doesn't OC as high as 965.

I'd suggest the Gigabyte S3 or DS3, or better, the Asus P5B, P5B-E, or the just released P5B Delxue non-WiFi + E6300 + the best RAM you can afford.

That will usually make it to around 1000 with loosened timings.
Or just get the 800 or 1000 stuff, which isn't too much more really.

What about Kingston HyperX modules? You see on both ASUS and Kingston HyperX website it says, WORKS BEST WITH ASUS P5B series (On Kingston) and you see Kingston HyperX mentioned on P5B series on ASUS's website too.

I will be going for Kingston HyperX because it's the only modules I can get in Pakistan to overclock! We don't have OCZ etc. here! Can someone tell me if OC'ing with ValueRAM is possible?

Ok so I think using lots of the suggestions I got through everyone and leanring that a P5B was CHEAPER than P5W I switched my choice to the P5B-Deluxe with WiFi thats why I liked the p5w deluxe. I also looked and read the OC guide yesterday from Toms Hardware, and it suggests a few things that I think are really in my range.

First they suggest DDR2 800 with 4-4-4-XX timings on a 2.1V or 2.2V power for an E6300 so I think this ram will be my choice for price/performance:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820227139

The next thing they say is that they have 7 heatseaks and/or fans they suggest for a stable overclock at low temps I chose this one:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835185122

The guide goes on to say that this heatsink and the other 6 heatsink/fans overclock stable beyond 3.4Ghz and that is fine with me. I mainly just want to overclock this bad boy better than an FX-62 and I will be fine

I also purchased 2 250 Seagate Perpindicular drives that I plan to set up in a raid config should be good stuff...

If anyone else has some suggestions they would be greatly appreciated...as well as thanks to those who already gave some. And thanks for ignoring any of my spelling errors...my grammer skills blow hahaha.

Oh one more thing I haven't really found. How long do I need to let my cpu and memory settle in my computer before OCing them? I figured it wasnt a good idea to just OC them right out of the box.

Why? Been OCing out of the box for the last 10 years??? My C2D in my sig was o/c the minute I finished installing Windoze - why wait (to get old)?? But then I am an old hand at this

Team xTreem 800 or 1000, Super Talent 800 or 1000, Cellshock 800 or 1000, OCZ Platinum/Titanium 800 or 1000/1100, or Corsair 6400C3 8500C5 or Dominator 8888C4, all seem to be the best choice right now. You are guarnteed to get either Micron D9GMH (Team Group, Corsair) or D9GKX (D9GMH's bigger, faster, more expensive brother)(Cellshock, OCZ Platinum EL 1000, Titanium 800,1000,1100, and Super Talent). Overall I am more than happy owning the OCZ Platinum EL 1000, and Titanium 1000's. They seem to give the highest FSB and very low 24/7 timings. The D9GMH has hit higher records, but need much more volts and can't keep it stable 24/7. I have some Team xTreem 1000 (D9GMH) and at DDR2-1000 2.25 volts 4-4-4-10 it hits 44 degrees, where my OCZ Titanium at 2.45 volts hits 38 degrees on orthos large fft's.
