Memory issue

I bought a matched pair of 1GB dimms, 2GB total, to add to my existing system which already had a matched pair of 1GB dimms, 2GB total, to give me 4GB installed. The old pair was crucial memory, and the new ones are kingston.

Bios detects 4GB of memory during startup, but my OS, Windows XP, is only showing 3.5GB both under My Computer > Properties and Task Manager > Performance. I suspect it's an issue with my OS, but I don't know where to start or if I can do anything about it. My motherboard is an Asus M2N-E with the latest bios. Any ideas? Thanks.

32-bit Windows only addresses 4 GB total, including the space used by video card RAM.
