Memory Leaks...

Without failure, after my system has been running for 2-3 days (usually 2 days and 15 hours or so, lol) I won't be allowed to open any more windows....menus will start to disappear, and I'll have to reboot to fix the problem. I'm running Win2k Pro - so I know it has nothing to do with the OS getting "sluggish" like win98 would. Anyway - Is there a program out there that will help me find out what program I'm running is causing the memory leak?

Idealy...I'd close all programs and test each one, one at a time to find the culprit...but as it takes 2 days until my computer runs out of available memory....this solution would take me a while..

Any ideas?

Internet Explorer is, in all probability, your biggest memory leak. If you are going to run the system 24/7 then launch it and leave it minimized.

I have a small TSR that allows you to reoptimize your memory, but I don't have it on this system . . . probably on my main system at the Lakeland office. If I check back in from there later today, and someone still hasn't given you one, I will find it and give you a link to it.

So how do I fix the IE memory leak? Install and newer version of it? I'm pretty sure I'm running IE 6.0

Also - anyone got one of those memory refresh proggies for win2k (or know when I can download one) ?

Internet Explorer (of whatever version) "leaks" memory by not returning all resources when you exit the program. As there is no specific cure or patch, the best recommendation is to launch it only one type per boot cycle and leave it minimized when not in use.

I looked at the other office, and couldn't find that little RAM enhancer program I used a while back.

I just close it and open it again, works fine.

It has a been a few weeks since I have rebooted my computer (when I was playing around in linux). How much memory do you have? I have 512, and it seems just fine with whatever I leave open.

It doesn't leak sooo much that it will exhaust your 256MB or 512MB of system RAM in a day or two. Just check the "Mem usage" your task manager for the IEXPLORE.EXE process when you start it and after a day or so of use. That will show you the approximate memory leak. When you close it, all of the memory that it leaked is restored to the system.

I'm not sure if this is one of the programs you're looking for. It's called RAM Idle.
RAM Idle

I'm having leaking problems here myself, and this does help, but I'd still like to find the program that's causing the problem to begin with.
