Memory matching still an issue?

I was wondering if it's still a big deal to match or pair between memory manufacturers?

I currently have one stick of OCZ DDRAM 512M PC3500, I'd like to purchase another but Newegg doesn't stock it anymore. If I match the specs is it safe to go with another manufacturer? This used to be a big no no, is it still?

normaly i would mismatch brands but since it seems you have no choice it should be ok just as long as specs match up closely

This is why I allways by something from kingston, crucial, etc that i know will be availble later on

OCZ still makes the same memory but they're only selling in pairs now?!?! I just need one 512 module. I checked some of the other performance brands and they're doing the same thing?!?

Seems odd that they'd do this. Anyone want to split a purchase on a pair of OCZ PC3500?

Problem is, say with Kingston, is that they'll use different chips. I have 2 sticks of Kingston 512MB PC3200 ValueRAM and they have different brands of chips.

Good point WobbleWobble on the chips. I need stability in my system so I always try to use good habits when I build a new system, like matching RAM, etc.

I'll purchase 1Gb of new PC3500 and leave it at that.

Can you not email OCZ about this problem you face? They may be nice and sell you a single stick or sell you a dual package for cheaper if you return your stick. Maybe they are nice
