Two years ago I built the computer in my signature and the Corsair 6400C4 memory cost $300 for 2Gb. I just bought the exact same two sticks on NewEgg for $9.99 after rebate.

That is 30 times cheaper or 3000% less!!!

Crazy.

This is true, but i7 was far too tempting for me... I wonder what my DDR3 will be worth by spring.

It's not 3000% cheaper, it's 97% cheaper.

AFAIK the memory manufacturers were found guilty of price fixing.

After the settlement in court the prices plummeted, paired with other factors of course.

Actually 96.67% cheaper.

Not thinking about it first time.

Thanks for catching that. Don't want to lose it totally.

I got 2x1GB DDR2-667 (OCZ) for $143 after $50MIR with my shiny new e6400 and 965p-DS3 back at the launch of C2D chips. Sunday night I picked up 2x2GB DDR2-800 (mushkin) for $34 after $20MIR.

Amazing price drops, getting quality memory for practically nothing these days. Must resist the urge to buy more...

DRAM prices are VERY good, indeed. I may pick up a trio of 1x1GB DDR3 sticks even before I make the move over to Core i7.

The DRAM makers definitely got their arses handed to them with the price fix settlement awhile ago. Now that there's a glut of supply (along with everything else in today's market), slowing demand, the Vista failure to spark memory upgrades, and the resurgence in laptop sales, prices have fallen thru the floor. DRAM makers also posting earnings in the red.

Remember, like all things supply/demand driven, DRAM prices will be cyclical. Doubtful it'll bounce anytime soon, but maybe by this time next year DRAM prices may be higher.

Microsoft is loving this because their inefficient programmers can now spec the minimum recommended RAM for Windows 7 and Office 2010 at 4GB. Lovely!

Well, considering you can pick up 8GB for less than a bill, and 16GB (4x4GB) for less than two bills, what's the big deal?
