How come vid cards are going down and not up like RAM?

Do u guyz really think the 9800pro will be ~150 in a month new?

I am running a 9200np right now and so far it is fine for what i do, but the upcoming games i wanna play like EQ2 and WoW may need a little more.

~RaNDoM

that makes sense, video cards have ram too, faster ones too.

ram manufacters are cutting production to lower supply thereby driving up demand.

I ordered 512MB of Corsair Dual-Channel DDR3200 from Newegg last week for 92 bucks. This is for a system I'm building/upgrading for my girlfriend this weekend.

The same RAM today is going for $119.

Gotta love it!

Just yesterday, I grabbed a Kingston KVR333x64c25 1G kit of two 512M modules for the Nvidia2 system
I am building, and was able to get a pretty good deal ( $165 + SH ) at TigerDirect - read about it here.
The last price I saw at shop.kingston.com was $130 each for these suckers, and newegg is over $100 each.

Yea, with prices going this high you're better off buying higher Mhz ram. If you're in Canada there's still AMP-X 512MB PC-3700 for 135 per stick @ atic.ca ^^

I have gotten 4 different sticks of Frys sale memory. To this day, not ONE of them has worked. One of 4 worked for 2 months, then croaked. I will NEVER buy memory from them again. newegg forever ! (I just ordered 1 gig of PC4200 Cas2.5 from newegg for $309 refurb, down from $390, after my $84 512 meg Hyperx PC3500 worked so well !)

I should have ordered the OCZ PC3500 1GB kit on monarchpc a few weeks ago, now its $275 (up from $218), I got my eyes set on the OCZ GOLD PC3700 1GB at newegg, its only $269, but outta stock. Current prices for basic DDR400 are insane.

At this rate, Dell's memory "upgrade" prices will actually seem like a bargain!!

The inquirer just had a story on this... the big name computer vendors (read dell, hp, gateway, etc...) are going to start selling some of their rigs at the same price but with less RAM. How long is this supposed to last???? I hope they get things under control soon.

The dram manufacturers got caught with their pants down with excess inventory a couple of years ago.

Now they're very cautious about ramping up production.

Well, at least video cards are coming down. $210 for a Sapphire 9800Pro feels like a steal. I remember being prepared to buy a 9600Pro for $185.

They bottomed out about a year ago~ I remember buying 1x512 of Kingston HyperX 5-2-2-2 for 70 dollars

$62 shipped from newegg last year 512MB PC3200 value ram. I bought 5

Looks like the feeding frenzy is over. Prices slow down on DRAM

IMO, PC manufactures and Intel are mostly to blame for the recent spike. They're FUD over the odoption of DDR2 caused an undue panic over possible DRAM shortages later this year.

This sucks. I need matched DIMMs for an Opteron system. Registered memory is freaking insane.

Well, after a month or so (and dragging this thread up from the dead...) has there been much change?

Are things stabalizing, albeit at a higher plateau? Going up? Down?

Things may be stabilizing. Shop at Kingston has 512 valueram for $68.99 AR which seems to be the cheapest price for decent name brand ram I have seen in a while.

I just could not believe how much they have gone up. since I got my Buffalo tech 2x256 winbond chips at Newegg for like around $40 a stick when I built my Athlon system a few mths back.
