Memory Prices way down.

SDRAM prices are falling. Time for a cheap upgrade. I checked out www.pricewatch.com today and there are several places offering 256MB of PC133 SDRAM @ $90/ea. This is so cool.
I just bought mine from pccost.com total=$100.90 including shipping. Go get some now.

yea, but that RAM u bought from PCCOST doesn't work in any of the BX chipset motherboards. It works with Athlon mobo's.

that's the only bad side to that RAM...

Yup, I just bought mine on saturday from pccost.com. You cant beat 256MB for $90. This is gonna give me 512 MB RAM... sweet.

Correct me if I am wrong....

But I thought an Athlon board was the most picky about memory. So why would one memory module work for an Athlon and not for an Intel mobo? Isn't PC100 PC100?

Also, just why the hell is memory so cheap these days? Sure, I can understand that DDR is coming out, but it ain't here yet (barely) and that couldn't possibly justify an across the board 50% drop in prices over a month or two. Must be El Nino...

mushkin rev2 2-2-2 128M is now 139; a month ago, when i got a stick for me, it was 190. argh. but yes, time to get more.

the rev2 is highly recommended. use the price drop as an opportunity to get "the good stuff"...

Ok, so when is the price really gonna bottom out. This is like hitting a moving target.

for BX/Intel chipsets, 256mb DIMMS (usually) require "registered" memory types - i suppose intel only thought that servers would have this much memory, so they wanted to be extra carefull when setting up mb timing / settings.

needless to say, VIA based boards appears to not bother checking this...

I don't think "registered" SDRAM has anything to do with the compatibility. Most PC motherboards do not support registered SDRAM.
