I recently purchased 2x512 Mushkin Enhanced 3200 and tried putting it into my system.

Upgrading from 2x256 of kingston 3200; failed to work.

I get to the boot up screen and it mentions something about the 80 conductor cable not installed. sometimes not even getting to do anything on the boot-up screen. well I f1'ed to continue and then tried to start windows normally and it just freezes; if not freezes auto reboots. says that it doesn't detect the IDE of the 80 conductor and that floppy not found. but it lists my HD so how could it be IDE? I would put my kingston back in and it would say the same error but I could still boot up and do things regularly.

any suggestions as i'm anxious to get this working

Hi, first run MemTest86+ (google for it, or maybe download the Ultimate Boot CD) - run a test and see if your memory is defective or not. This will take a few hours to verify. Then make sure all your cables are plugged in. Finally, disconnect all nonessentials and test. Hope it helps!

you're saying that as if I can do that with the mushkin in? because if so it won't start up with mushkin in. or atleast boot to windows.

Can you try the new ram in a different system?

Does the problem go away when you put your old ram in?

1. no
2. I guess it SORT OF goes away. I can still get the error but I can just continue (f1) and start windows. when I try to do so with the mushkin it just reboots automatically. I can function with old ram; I can't function with new.

Do you have your harddrive connected with an 80 pin cable? Have you checked to make sure it's securely attached?

no because i'm a "noob" with the whole hands on things with computers. I just recieved this Shuttle and i'm not so good at getting into it to do anything. I did sort of push in the connectors and what not but i'm not sure if it's 80. would that matter seeing my 3200 kingston ram ran on it?

edit// how to tell if it's 80 and not a 40?

I'm not sure why it would only show up with one kind of ram or the other, but the 80-pin message is an indication that your HDD cable may be plugged in strangely or it might be a 40-pin or something.

Usually there's a blue end and a black end to an IDE cable. There's a grey one in the middle usually too.

The blue end goes into the motherboard.

80-pin cables have twice as many wires in them as 40-pin cables

Have you tried both sticks one at a time, or did you just remove one?
If your system boots with one stick and runs just fine, then eaither

A: the second stick is bad
or
B: Your mainboard cannot support both sticks at the same time. This could be due to having both sticks on the same channel (in the case of dual channel boards), or perhaps your mainboard is just very picky with the type and size of RAM it will take in each slot.

perhaps a list of your hardware would help?

actually I found out ONE of the problems. the SN41G2 V3 (shuttle) mobo only supports 333, not 400 memory. so I thought, hey I'll set SYNC and let it put it where it should be, and it did - at 333 - but only SOMETIMES will both memory sticks show up at the same time. I still can't load windows with it, though. also, with ONE stick in I can't load anymore either - I get a quick flashing blue screen. how to fix all of my problems?

edit :// FN41 v3 (proprietary)

NVIDIA nForce?2 IGP + RAID MCP chipset

400/333/266/200 MHz FSB

(1) 32-bit PCI slot

it's actually a FN41 (version1) only supporting 2.5 volts and I just traded in mushkin ram for kingston hyperx same specs but I think it's 2.6 or 2.7 volts. there's no way of editing the volts in BIOS. any ideas? changing speeds would help? if not I have this final question;

would there be a huge difference in - http://shop2.outpost.com/product/4385145?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

and

http://shop2.outpost.com/product/3602905?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG.

if not the regular mushkin is 2.5 volts (or 2.6) needed; and i'll swing to that.
