I desperately need ram
right now this is my config on my system

Ahtlon 800
Biostar VIA chipset mobo
128 PC-133 SDRAM
Windows XP Pro

I wanted to get 256 CAS2 from crucial for around $30 and completely raplce my 128mb

But now best buy...with a rebate...has K-Byte 256 PC-133 SDRAM for $10
I dont know if this is CAS3 or CAS2
But if i get 2 sticks of this would my system be fine (totaling 640mb CAS3 RAM)?

Is K-Byte a good company...would it matter with 640mb ram?

THANKS

If you can afford to go brand name, I think you should get the crucial stuff. Plus, you cant always count on rebates actually coming in.

yeah but crucial is $20 more expensive.
This is best buy...if the rebate doesn't come they give you the money back +%5 more for the trouble.

thanks for responding

I wouldn't waste my time w/ K Mart memory. Cough up the extra 20.00 for Crucial, or equivalent, and save yourself headaches and second quesses. If you can't afford the 20.00 difference, save your lunch money for a few weeks and then make the purchase.

why do you call it k mart memory??? I dont think crucial name is worth $20. Plus with this 'kmart' memory..i get a warranty for free
Plus...i can get two of them for $10 less than one of crucials

Is 640 CAS3 faster than 384 of cas2 and cas3 (dont think this combo is possible)

Here is a FAQ from the K Mart...err K Byte homepage.

<< Can I use a PC66 in my PC100 system?

No. The point of having a PC100 machine is to get that extra performance of the PC100 and memory is an important component to it. Using PC66 in your PC100 machine will create a compatibility issue. To determine whether your system needs PC100 look in your manual or ask the manufacturer if the machine you have is PC100. They will know what you mean.
>>

At least they could have stated "Yes, but you will be running the memory faster than what it was specified. In other words you are overclocking the memory . This could lead to instabilities or a no post issue." In addition, their website looks like it was designed by a 5 year old.

I build and troubleshoot systems for a living. When you start cutting corners with hardware you only hurt yourself in the long run. Memory is already dirt cheap anyhow, no need to be a penny pincher.

Go with the Crucial for the extra $20, its worth it for the reliability and lifetime warranty.

you could consider kingston valueram from dell with 25% off, free shipping, it's cheaper than Crucial but at cl3, high quality and lifetime warranty as Crucial.

I have never heard of ram breaking down...what reliability does it offer? What errors can it cause...plus i can always return it...it is best buy
Plus i get warranty from K-Byte
Not trying to convince myself to get k-byte...just making sure i know all the facts
