What's the difference when RAM says 32x64 and when it says 64x64? I've been told that 32x64 is 256 mb modules and 64x64 is 512 modules. But on newegg.com i saw a 512 mb piece that says 32x64. The description is: KINGSTON KVR333X64C25/512 512MB 32x64 PC2700 DDR RAM. Any explanations? Thanks

I think that it also has something to do with the amount of Mbits of RAM per bank.

eg... 512 Mbit(8Mx16x4) banks 1 DIMMx64/x72= 512 Mbytes

Dunno, thats what it says in my GA-7vax Manual...

DxW

D = depth or density; usually specifies the number of Meg per chip on the memory module

W = width; number of bits, 64 for unbuffered memory, 72 for registered/ECC memory

These statements usually apply to DRAM memory only.

typo.

see Crucial's PC2700 price list:

512MB $154.99 $139.49 CT6464Z335 DDR PC2700 ? CL=2.5 ? Unbuffered ? Non-parity ? 6ns ? 2.5V ? 64Meg x 64
256MB $75.99 $68.39 CT3264Z335 DDR PC2700 ? CL=2.5 ? Unbuffered ? Non-parity ? 6ns ? 2.5V ? 32Meg x 64
128MB $45.99 $41.39 CT1664Z335 DDR PC2700 ? CL=2.5 ? Unbuffered ? Non-parity ? 6ns ? 2.5V ? 16Meg x 64

On that note, is there any difference between DOUBLE bank and SINGLE Bank dimms? I have an older crucial 2100 256k stik that says Double Bank under Sandra and the newer one Crucial 2100 256k says Single Bank under Sandra...can you use a double bank stik and a single bank stik together? I am asking cuase my new build is having random problems and perhaps this is it?

for 256MB dimm, double bank = double side = each side has 8 chips, total 16, each chip is 128Mbit;
single bank = single side = one side has 8 chips, each chip is 256Mbit = higher density memory chip than the one used in double bank.

motherboard chipsets support x amount of banks, each slot on the motherboard = 2 banks,
some motherboards have more slots = more banks than the chipset can support, which makes the last slot useless if you put in all double side dimm,
or if you want to use all the slot, you've to use some single side dimm at least.
