Guys and Gals ...

Due to various reasons (including increase in work commitments, and the fliers no longer being delivered) I'm going to have to stop these lists ... I appreciate the help I've been given in maintaining these lists.

I notice Newegg has refurbished PC3200 512MB Geil for $51 but it is now out of stock. How in the heck do you refurbish RAM?

someone returns it, its used, and they cant sell it as new so they have to sell it as refurbished. sometimes refurbished is something repaired, sometimes its something someone didnt want, something they couldnt use, something that wouldnt work in their system, but seems fine in another etc.

But how can they sell it as "refurbished", if it hasn't actually been "refurbished"... "NewEgg refurbs", a term that will live on in infamy...

(What the hell is wrong with calling it "open box", or more simply, "used", or "returned"? Why the need for deception/confusion on their part?)

Many places with returned items sell them as "refurbs." It's common practice. I'd probably stay away from refurb ram. It might have been returned cause it didn't overclock well or run good timings.

i have a dell 4500 and i waz wondering if i had to buy the pc 2100 ram or the pc 2700...i called dell and they said any ram with frequency of 266 mhz and non-ecc(no idea wat this means) will worrk..not sure wat this means...cud someone clarify

As far as I understand it ...

266Mhz = PC2100
333Mhz = PC2700
400Mhz = PC3200

You should just know that you dont need to have ECC in your memory. It is something like Error Correction for memory and is usually installed only in Servers as it is more reliable. But most Home Motherboards dont support it.

So basically... as long as it does NOT say ECC-DDR-SDRAm or any similar thing with ECC, you should be fine

I plugged your model into the Crucial memory selector (at www.crucial.com), and it came up with DDR PC2100.

So the answer is yes, you can buy and use the KByte 256MB PC2100 stick.

Yes, it's non-ecc. ECC memory is tougher to find, and it's unlikely you'll see it in an office supply store any time soon.
