I've been experiencing some intense slow-downs and frequent crashes over the last few days. Finally I decided to do a virus scan and discover I have "win32:induc."

I looked it up and tried to find solutions but nothing was particularly helpful. I moved the virus to chest as recommended by avast 4.8, but then it kept popping up again and again but from different areas. (i.e, one is in program files, the other is in a different folder, etc...)

then I start seeing other virus warnings and add those to the chest.

Avast told me to reboot and do the virus checking during the boot phase, but that crashed to.

I'm running Vista with 2 gigs of ram and a duo core processor.

I'm wondering if the virus is taking its toll on my CPU because ordinary programs that usually take up little space are lighting up the task manager. Even when I type here it pauses every few seconds, or slows down when I back space.

When I browse wikipedia, I can here my computer reve up really loud, and mozilla freezes for about 10-20 seconds when clicking on a new topic. The browser becomes bright white with a heading say "not responding," but if you wait long enough it goes away - only to return when you scroll through the article.

my browser has done this about 5 times and its taken me over 30 minutes simply to write this.

This is so unreal and I've never had this problem before. I don't get on bad sites or anything!

How to do I get rid of this?

Sounds like spyware more than a virus, try running something like malware bytes

http://www.malwarebytes.org/

Or trying housecall.antivirus.com they have a java scanner that catches most easy things.

okay i tried to the malwarebytes and it only found two viruses. my computer is performing a little better, but firefox still freezes a lot.

on my task manager, my cpu goes up and down really quickly.

Guys it's gotten worse!

My internet is going extremely slow. Slower than dial up. It takes more than a minute to download a single web page.

Also, when I reboot my computer, it shuts downs and restarts 3 times before fully booting.

instant shut down, instant restart x 3, and then final successful boot.

so bizzare.

WTF is going on?!!!!!!!!!!!

That's starting to sound like a hardware problem, not a virus.

I would take Blazer's advice and follow the security guide.
Also, virus scans usually work better if run in Safe Mode.

I would follow Gunbusters advice...forget about trying to hunt the virus down and removing it (which may or may not work). Just back up important data...scan backed up data to make sure the virus isnt in a program or something, then just reformat and reinstall Windows...not only will you get rid of the virus/whatever it is, but youll also have a nice new reinstall of Windows!

Agreed. This has gone beyond "I have a virus" and into "I am no longer in control of the box". If the data isn't important to you, format and reinstall Windows clean. If you need to recover it, install Windows on another drive, secure the heck outta it so you don't get re-infected, and then install the viral drive and attempt to clean/recover/copy your files.

well, the computer was working fine after i followed all of your suggestions.

i did avast, micro, malwarebytes, etc...

but today, it's all come back.

however, my CPU and memory don't surge up at all. firefox goes to "not working" for 5 seconds, then comes back. typing is slow on some sites, and youtube and netflix watchnow can be choppy.

it's weird because sometimes its really bad, then its okay for 30 minutes or so...then it comes back.

WTF?!

also, my virus scan is taking longer than usual. avast quick scan is at 1 hour 45 minutes. it says 95% done, but it's said 95% for the past hour.

could a virus be fucking with my scanner?

thanks 4 any help1

Run combofix yet?! You can get it from bleepingcomputer.com.

You might start with HijackThis if you haven't already.

if you think it came back and sure its not hardware related then wipe and reload, follow the guides to secure your pc so it doesnt happen again.
