OK...I know a lot of you guys are smart, probably beyond my intelligence. I actually see that as a good thing. I've been in the past evaluated at over 150 IQ...but what does that really matter? Yeah, I'm smart, I pick up stuff very quickly if I'm interested in it, but does this have any merit as far as employers or just life in general other than learning tons of semi-useless crap? What does MENSA really offer anyone besides saying "Im in MENSA"?

a. Help the baby.

b. Hide from teh baby.

c. Buy pot off the baby.

I think IQ test should be based on one question.

"Do you believe in a omnipotent being?"

Its a double edged sword question.

Help the baby by buying pot from him, but hide your face so he won't remember you.

Or worse, imprint on you.

Buying the pot puts money in his diaper, and better yet, it keeps him from trying any of it - because the last thing you want is a kid with a potty mouth.

I think "book smart" is more of a measure about how to study and work than anything. Its not a measure of intelligence. Some of us just say "Hey, fuck that", then smoke a bowl and have a conversation.

I think IQ tests should use questions that help gauge your intelligence.

Or "highly intelligent people don't do as well in life because they're socially awkward"

Long read but one of the best and funniest threads ever on ATOT

<< It's just no fun to smack a 'tard. >>

Hey, I'm not tard, you doorknob. Three people in my family are members of MENSA.
<< it still wouldn't say jack sh!t about your intelligence or theirs for that >>

yes, it's hereditary and I got a lot of it.

I'm a lot smarter than Rusty (I refuse to call him by a nickname).
<< Do they like beer? >>

Is this funny? Yes, they drink beer.

Don't ever question my levels of smartness.
<< Btw, I'm Texmaster LORD of all Flamebait. So nice of you to join us >>

According to my knowledge, men how use titles such as master and lord and who take credit for being negative influences on their community, usually suffer from Napolean Syndrome.
Red Dawn, you seem like good man. Why do some say that you dress like woman?
<< LOL Dawn, let me at least grab some popcorn first. >>

Napolean, please quit trying to stir up troubles. As I said before, there is no problem with this. Each man must do what he wishes to be happy and sexually gratified. Some choose to trap the desires and have nervous problems as a result. Do not make fun of anyone especially nice men like Red Dawn.

I am not trying to be someone who I'm not. I admit that I'm not the smartest man (there are others who are smarter), but I do have a high IQ and family members who is MENSA. Do not doubt who I am, sir.

Interesting thing there, think about someone with an IQ of 70, which is what then, 2 standard deviations below average? Think about how awkward that person might be in social situations. Now try the opposite end of the spectrum, 130.
Normal dist. curve for IQ's.

Now I highly doubt that intelligence scales linearly, assuming that line isn't being warped by some immensely powerful gravity well . But it is something interesting to ponder, I guess. Joe Average overheats his brain trying to comprehend something, while Mr. 130 is getting bored thinking, "My god, you can't really be that slow, can you?" But since Mr. 130 is outside of the norm, he's seen as the oddity. SHUN!

The discussion that started MENSA:

Guy 1: I'm an intelligent blow hard!

Guy 2: No way me too!!!

Guy 3: Wow is there an ecco in here? Don't you wish there was some kind of intelligent blow hard group we could join?

Guy 2: So long as no one with an IQ of less than 120 cna join. I can't stand those sub 20s pretenders.

Guy 1: My IQ is 180!

Guy 3: Let's suck each others dicks!!

Everyone: Yeah that's a great idea!!!

Edit: I'm being somewhat facetious here. The idea of a society for intellectuals is something that I would actually support. But MENSA doesn't really come across as that so much as a "nerd badge" society.

From a practical/pragmatic standpoint it offers little...discounts from certain insurances, resume padding, etc. From a more general standpoint an organization of exceptional intelligences (not so much mensa, but higher requirement groups) exposes someone to others of the same general level of ability. This is necessary for fostering one's growth to their maximum potential. There's simply no comparison to being immersed in peers of roughly equivalent ability and outlook (which is generally true since those interested in intellectual groups often share certain specific interests).

Pretty much just a chance to hang out around people around your level of intelligence who also share an interest in being part of a group with some sort of IQ requirement. Seems like a chance to meet some real pompous pricks, too, though you could probably meet decent people.

Basically its just like any other interest group.

MENSA is around for the same reason all other interest groups are around, so people with similar interests can interact. I'm sure there are plenty of high IQ people that wouldn't go anywhere near MENSA since it wouldn't be their cup of tea. Also there are some that join just to say they're in MENSA as a ego stroke.
