Mental health is a real problem

With all the tragedies we've seen in our lifetime it's hard to ignore the issue of mental health. We see it mentioned a lot these days but think it's not very prevalent.

There's a thread on Reddit right now about telling secrets only anonymously (but wouldn't tell in real life). I can't believe how many speak of suicidal tendencies and just plain hate for life. After reading for just less than an hour, it's really eye opening how life differs for everyone and surprising that more tragedies don't happen more often. It doesn't take much for someone to drag others down with them, as there are just so many unhappy people among us.

People need stress reduction. It's actually possible, we just choose not to help others.

My wife and I were having this discussion a few days ago. It's really hard to blame Reagan at this point when we had 8 years of Clinton and 8 years of Obama in the oval office and nothing was done.

As if a President can wave a magic wand. They are actually quite powerless in our dysfunctional system.

I gotta disagree with you...I've been married for over 42 years...and she drives me bat-shit crazy sometimes.

Your brain definitely changes when you get married. At one point you would listen and hear things, and magically I will be having conversations and my brain says "Conversation has been deemed Useless information - immediately reject data and continue nodding head". I swear it's not even a choice anymore.

When you're single you work on yourself, and its pretty rewarding. And as an introvert I most definitely enjoy solo time more than suffering through the company of people I don't like. You learn alot about yourself when you're the one buying everything you like just because you like it.

100% Honest... When my relationship fell apart the married guys felt sorry for me at first, now they are a bit jealous. I was going to marry my ex but apparently dodged a bullet.

I do explicitly guy stuff just because I can.

I get plenty of interest from girls I'm just not really interested in most of them.

I think society is better off if we all do a better job at taking a step back and looking for more similarities between ourselves and others we don't inherently understand rather than looking for differences.

Some people don't realize how good they have it when it comes to family and friends who care about them. Without that you basically turn into a Rick Grimes archtype... a hardened survivor.

You're looking in from the outside at people who have family warmth and comfort, but really its not all its cracked up to be. What you get in return is freedom. You don't have to worry about living life in a way your family deems acceptable, which is honestly where most mental health problems come from.

Money is closely tied to mental health actually. The worst situation to be in is one where your family has high expectations but little means to actually carry through with them. I call it "Here's $5 for some ramen noodles and you should be grateful you even have that, why aren't you a doctor yet?" Syndrome.
