When I was 8, I fell from a height of one storey upon a rock and busted my knee cap. The stone went almost all the way in and I was unconscious for over an hour in the place I fell. When I woke up, it felt as if my entire leg was on fire and I was reduced to throwing stones at window panes to get my folks attention (I was unable to move because the stone was partly inside my leg) When my folks found me, I was in a pool of my own blood, one more hour there and I would have bled to death (That's what the doctors told my parents) I was in the hospital for over a month and 3 months at home bedridden, with only my VCR, comics and my hands for company.

Do you have any such stories to share?

Fell off a slide and snapped my forearm in half. Ugh...happened 28 years ago and I still get sick thinking about it. It wasn't pretty

Got hit in the head with the blade end of a hockey stick when my friend was going for a slapshot and I was coming up behind him. It wasn't a bad cut, only took a couple stitches, but it missed my eye by like a half inch. I was lucky!

I took an overdose of a prescription medication several years ago by accident. They couldnt do anything to help me except tell me to drink a lot of fluids.

Ya know that feeling you get when you have a charlie horse in your foot? Imagine that happening to every muscle in your body, every 2 minutes for 3 days straight.

Yeah. I wanted to kill myself. I was literally screaming at the top of my lungs and crying non stop for those 3 days.

I was hit by a car while on a bicycle, broke my femur in two and twisted my knee to the side. I passed out, woke up in surgery while they were drilling through my leg to put it into traction. No painkillers because I was passed out, so I felt the whole thing from the drillbit going into one side of my calf, to going through the bone in the middle, to out the other side. Then doing it again on my other bone in my calf. I was awake for about 5 minutes, just lied there, didn't say anything, ended up passing out from the pain.

I'll never forget the smell of burning flesh, as the smoke came out from drilling through bone.

ruptured my spleen. I remember being pumped full of pain killer just so i could lie on my back to take the CT scan of my abdominal area. That was not fun. Nor was it fun not being able to sit up, laugh, or do anything useful for a few months there after.

That happened to me about 8 months ago, I hope you were able to stop the pain by means other than surgery.

Is that when you found out about this?

Broke my ankle in basic training a couple years ago. First I had to walk back on it. Then they put it in a cast. At no time did I have any medications. The pain involved over the life of the injury was insane.

As for short-duration pain, waking up after surgery on it would be at the top of my list.

I've torn my ACL and cartilage in both knees. I can no longer watch the replays of knee injuries in games. The phys therapy for the next few months was painful too.

Once I fell around 40 feet (another 30 ft. to the concrete below!), the only thing that stopped me was a piece of Uni-strut on which a light was affixed.
I landed with my left side on the Uni-strut, breaking (literally smashing) 3 ribs severely and separating 2 others in the process.
Mr. "I'll be all right" here decided he was too tough to go to the ER or even see a doctor, finished out the work day in so much pain I was crying.
After needing assistance even getting in and out of bed for over a month, the Engineer in charge kinda forced me to go to a doctor and get it checked.
Unfortunately, the healing had already started and the Doc. said there was little he could do other than wrap me so tight that I couldn't bend over.
Hurt severely for about a year before I started seeing any improvement, and was quite sore for many, many months after that. (Never missed a days work because of it either)
That was about 24 years ago, and if I press on my ribs in that area today, there is still a sore spot, though not bad, but I can sure tell where the damage was done.

I wiped out on my 1985 Honda CR80 pretty bad one day riding down a freshly graveled road with a friend. Came to a curve in the road, started to slide, panicked and grabbed the front brakes. Over the handlebars I went.

Did a faceplant on the road (open face helmet) and slid face and hands first (no gloves) off the road and into the ditch.

My hands were skinned to the bone in the palms in both hands and my face was f*cked with gravel stuck in it in my nose and chin. That was painful... but even more painful was when we walked to a nearby farmer's house to call for help.

He hesitated to let me in because of all the blood, but when he did let me in, he led me to his bathroom where he filled up the sink with hot water and salt. He told me I had to dunk my face & hands in the hot salt water. I did that and then dug a bunch of gravel out of my face. The pain was so extreme that my knees got weak.

ok then

I had a Circumcision but something happened, i was about to be discharged from hospital, got up and bled a lot nurse came to see me but it had stopped was told to wait for a bit.

then they asked me to try and get up again, but this bled again. so they called the surgeon, he looked and said it was fine nothing to worry about.

this was @ 14.45 on thursday, so i went home no bleeding this time, 2am friday morning i needed to pee, so i went but started to bleed and it didnt stop, lost 250ml of blood according to the ambulence, so to A & E i went, saw a consultant who called a night surgeon, he told me i needed 1 stitch that seemed to have been missed, did i want a general, local, or be brave with gas and air.

so gas and air it was then the git said best put another in just incase

so i had in the end 2 stitches in my bell end with nothing but gas and air

two words...kidney stones
you will never feel a pain so awful as having to go through these. It goes to that place beyond pain where you can do is just wimper and vomit from the excruciating nature of a 2mm piece of rock coming through that small tubing system.

hmm...i've been pretty lucky when it comes to injuries, nothing too major.

the worst was probably breaking my big toe on my right foot. this was when I was in maybe 7th or 8th grade. It was winter and I had built this snow fort type thing. The next day or so I decided to knock it down. I tried kicking it but it was frozen solid.

I also remember when I was in elementary school my family would go to a public pool. There was this lip that stuck out around the whole edge of the pool, almost like a step.
You had the sidewalk area then the dip that went down maybe 5 inches, then out for another 5, then straight down to the floor of the pool. i was jumping into the pool backwards and hit my chin on that lip. I had to get several stitches. luckily it wasn't worse because i could imagine that could have really fvcked up my mouth or jaw.
