The problem is that it's not exactly clear what you're actually purchasing when you buy a CD:
- you're not purchasing the content of the CD, because you can't copy it and share it
- you're not purchasing the rights to play the CD anywhere you want, because there are restrictions on broadcast, etc.
- you're not purchasing perpetual rights to listen to the contents, because if the CD breaks, you're SOL

I guess you're just purchasing a piece of plastic, without any warranty, guarantee, or ability to return if unsatisfactory. Limited consumer rights, no consumer protection. That's it. Period.

I'm inferring from this exercise that the point was: finding anything not "past 20 years" mainstream would be difficult.

My usual test for this is to do a search for the band Firewater and to then do a search on songs by Dean Martin. If I found results for both, then I know I've hit the jackpot.

they've gone back to unlimited free radio. this is an awesome (and legal) p2p app. this is like itunes webcasting except much better. you'll find thousands of people online to select from and find those who have the same taste of music as you. i'm discovering music i've never listened to before in my life, much of which even comes with descriptions of the album and the artist. i get to listen and learn!

WOW! Great idea. I've been meaning to check out a few obscure bands, and some praised but not so obscure (The Mars Volta) bands for some time now. I've not wanted to waste bandwidth to download them or money to buy a CD that I may not like. I just wanted to listen before I buy. And face it, once you download music, it takes some serious willpower and nobility to go to the store and buy it.

This is perfect for folks who enjoy out-of-the-mainstream music. Nearly anything you type in is available.

13gigs, that's probably because you tried it back when it was v2.xx or older. you've gotta check out v3.1.9 or whatever the newest version is. the videos now work and they have a new tab called artist radio - i'm hooked to this thing!
