Newegg is definitely going downhill IMO.
The first time I bought from them was 1 year ago - a 5900XT. Couldn't get it to install so I RMA'd it, and got a second one (but they didn't put the free CoD in the second one like they did on the first).
I ended up with some old Leadtek driver/registry problems and had to format the HDD, so in the end the problem was my fault, but I was not impressed with Newegg messing up the RMA and screwing me out of a game.
However, I really like their selection and their site layout, so I do always check them for stuff. I just recently bought a case, DVDRW, and Card Reader from them, and they charged separate shipping on all three items, even though they shipped the DVDRW and card reader in the same box. That was kinda cheezy IMO.
Now I see them jacking up their processor prices 25-30%, and as mentioned above, selling a $4 dollar fan with $5 shipping.
What made them good IMO was the fact that they had a great selection (still have that), great prices (sometimes have that, but not so much anymore), a good shipping policy (definitely don't have that anymore), and good RMA (they didn't do a good job on my stuff, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt on this and assume that my case was rare).
Given these factors, I no longer consider them as a first choice, and instead will look @ SVC (since I live in SJ I can will call items and pay no shipping), Outpost, Amazon, ZZF, Monarch, and probably newegg as a last resort.
In my experience, their greatness is overrated.
