I just realized today, when I was looking for a 6800, newegg is charging upwards of $6 just to ship a graphics card.

UPDATE: ok, after reading all this post, what would you guys do? Outpost.com has the BFG 6800OC for $254 shipped. Would you guys buy this from newegg once it is in stock, Leadtek, or get this from outpost.com now, BFG

2 days MY FOOT, it takes them 5 days to get stuff to me, and I live on the east coast, where they have a warehouse I believe... I'm just getting upset because why shoud you have to "settle" for good shipping, when it ALL used to be free? BTW, I really like that price for the BFG, can you give me your experiences with outpost.com? And can I be sure that the card I see there, will be the card I get? I don't want the one with 2 fans on it, i'm a bit weary of buzzing whining fan noise.

Outpost.com = Fry's

So that has good and bad things associated with it. They'll get you your stuff, but you better hope you never actually have to talk to anybody. They'll give you whatever BFG puts in the box, I wouldn't rely on the pictures on the site.

Sneaky, newegg.com is a very reputable vendor. In the past 2 months, I have ordered in excess of $30,000 (thirty thousand) in computer hardware for my company. Anything I order, I get within 4 business days or less. Anytime I have to RMA, its done faster than any other vendor. Try RMA'ing with MWave and let me know how it goes. I have never used them so I don't know.

And there is such a thing as becoming a skin-flint. If 12.00 is enough to make you lose respect for one of the internet's top vendors, well, I'm saying its not that big of a deal when you know your dealing with a reputable vendor. I would gladly pay 25.00 more to newegg over say, GameVE for the exact same product.

I hear that, i spend a ton of money at newegg and do price shop, i only go with different merchants if the difference in price is dramatic (like 10%).

a $6-12 difference on a $270+ item make you lose respect for a vendor?

that less then 5% difference, and i'm sure newegg make it up with their shipping and RMA policy.

i wouldn't mind trying Mwave just for the sake of trying them, but I always love to shop on newegg.

You're missing the point, they never used to do this, that is what upsets me, i'm 16 years old, I don't have a job, and a stable source of income like you fellas do.

Mwave is a very good very old vendor, just as newegg is.

But what I don't see is free shipping, it still comes up with 14.40 for shipping, which comes up to 293, and newegg is 291?

you're missing the point. i'm 16 and i don't get that much money. newegg does a fine job as a vendor and you can't criticize them so much for some shipping dollars.
take for example, a geil stick of ram i was looking at. the prices kept changing between $82, free shipping and $81, $1 shipping. it's all the same, maybe your video card will do the same thing.

WTF? You enjoy paying more? So, like the OP says, if you have an option to get the same card for either $279 or $291, you will pay $12 more?

I have been a loyal customer of Newegg as well, but I am sick of them changing prices so often and "funky" shipping charges like the OP said. $4 to ship a 3.5 drive that costs $7? Please.

Sorry your 16 and don't have a job, but us that lead busy lives working would rather not save $5 and spend a week trying to contact customer service trying to get an RMA. Time, reliabilty, and peace of mind is worth every penny they charge me. If I had the best store on the internet, I would also raise prices slightly, guarunteed extra income in exchange for buyer confidence.

I didn't realize your financial situation Sneaky, sorry. But, if money is that tight, should you be looking for an expensive video card first? Or some sort of employment first. The very day I turned 16 was when I went to get my working papers. This allowed me to legally work under the age of 18 in NY state. I worked that whole summer full time and part time when I went back to school.

I've got my working papers But the plant nursery doesn't do a very brisk business during the cold weather, so i'm not working. And no, money isn't tight by any means keys, but my parents don't exactly want to be spending their money, buying me tinker toys to play with in my free time, i'd much rather use my own money. The path to fiscal responsibility. And Cdubneeddeal, of course I have other interests, I do cross country, JROTC, my JROTC's drill team, and DUH i'm interested in the ladies! This isn't supposed to be about me!

This is the only beef I have with the Egg as of late. I'm a pretty loyal customer to them as well. I'm not so concerned with $100+ items getting $6 S/H change, but these outrageous shipping changes on simple things like fans and wire adapters are forcing me to buy elsewhere.

Examples:

$5 shipping for item that costs $1.25

$1.60 fan with $5 shipping

If you add those two items to your cart, you'll see that both shipping charges are counted. So you'll end up spending about $3 on the products, but $10 on the FedEx truck.

Didn't use to be like that.

If money is tight, and you are buying an expensive product...

...ALWAYS go with the vendor that has the most security and reputation for quality.

5 dollars on shipping is a _MUCH_ smaller hit than 200 dollars, or even 100 dollars, because you can't RMA, or your order gets lost, etc etc.

Think of it as very very cheap insurance.

The 5 dollar shipping for a 1 dollar fan is a bit silly.. but why not just buy fans from your local PC joint? I doubt it'll be much more expensive.

This is my first time using new egg, but I don't see what you guys are talking about.

I just ordered $500 worth of stuff from new egg ( including a case). All shipped for $9.00.

Now this was the cheapest shipping option so i was expecting 4-5 days or so. All came in 2 days, but one box they forgot. they send me an email apologizing, give me 20$ of credit and send it overnight. So for $9.00 of shipping I get all my stuff within 3 days and 20$ credit.

Not to mention after shopping around, Newegg had the lowest price on every part I wanted but 1-2 and they were only a 2-3$ away.

Maybe I just got lucky, but I honestly can't say I have any complaints with them at all.

If the plant nursery is the only place you can work, I'm guessing you don't exactly live in a bustling metropolis (which is fine), but that might explain why you don't get stuff quickly. I'm also on the east coast (Atlanta, GA), and I get stuff from Newegg usually in 2-3 working days if it ships from any of their distribution centers. So, maybe FedEx is your problem, not Newegg.

This is the only beef I have with the Egg as of late. I'm a pretty loyal customer to them as well. I'm not so concerned with $100+ items getting $6 S/H change, but these outrageous shipping changes on simple things like fans and wire adapters are forcing me to buy elsewhere.

Agreed, Newegg is not a good place to order low ticket items, such as fans, cables, and accessories. I either get that stuff locally or go with Sidewinder.

Newegg is definitely going downhill IMO.

The first time I bought from them was 1 year ago - a 5900XT. Couldn't get it to install so I RMA'd it, and got a second one (but they didn't put the free CoD in the second one like they did on the first).

I ended up with some old Leadtek driver/registry problems and had to format the HDD, so in the end the problem was my fault, but I was not impressed with Newegg messing up the RMA and screwing me out of a game.

However, I really like their selection and their site layout, so I do always check them for stuff. I just recently bought a case, DVDRW, and Card Reader from them, and they charged separate shipping on all three items, even though they shipped the DVDRW and card reader in the same box. That was kinda cheezy IMO.

Now I see them jacking up their processor prices 25-30%, and as mentioned above, selling a $4 dollar fan with $5 shipping.

What made them good IMO was the fact that they had a great selection (still have that), great prices (sometimes have that, but not so much anymore), a good shipping policy (definitely don't have that anymore), and good RMA (they didn't do a good job on my stuff, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt on this and assume that my case was rare).

Given these factors, I no longer consider them as a first choice, and instead will look @ SVC (since I live in SJ I can will call items and pay no shipping), Outpost, Amazon, ZZF, Monarch, and probably newegg as a last resort.

In my experience, their greatness is overrated.

Oh please, newegg's return policy is already better than 99.9% of the retailers out there.
Newegg gets so many reuturns, it's amazing how they still stay in business. I've talked to a lot of people that works at newegg, including my neighbor, and he tells me that a whopping 10% of their orders get RMA'ed! They get over 10,000 orders a day! So that's 1,000 returns in a single day! They have an entire warehouse just to store returned items.

I used to do about 90% of my shopping at newegg. I have not bought one thing in over a year from them. It all started when they started charging tax to TN residents, because they put a place of buis in Memphis. Our state tax is 9.25, which is outragous enough. Adding that on a video card, monitor, CPU or anything else that is 500+, negates any "low" prices they have. They have raised their prices, and dont ship *everything* free anymore.

I now do most of my shopping at mwave, or googlegear. Both have great prices, usually lower than newegg.

After reading all of your posts, I will agree with you, that newegg is a very dependable place to buy your parts from, and their RMA service is bar none, the best. I guess all that I'm trying to say is, is $5 really necessary to ship a graphics card, that costs $285, and they are already making a profit on? I know that that might seem insignificant to a lot of you, but i'm just basing this on principle alone, why did they all the sudden start doing this?

Quit complaining all of you guys living in the Mainland:disgust:. I live in Hawaii and it cost me a hell of a lot more for shipping. Most venders ship to Hawaii only via FedEx or UPS Second Day Air (or One Day Priority Air). So a freaking video card would be about $30 to $60 to ship AND it will take a day or two longer! A 19" monitor that cost $299 is charged a $100 to ship to Hawaii.

Fortunately for the small stuff (fans, cables, etc.) I could get locally. But if I really need the small stuff and specialty items, I try to wait till I have a good size order to make the shipping worthwhile.

I know that it is just as bad in Alaska in regards to shipping
