Attractive label and bottle.

My very first bottle of single malt scotch(Deerstalker) I bought based on price and appearance. I got what I deserved :^D I looked it up, and found the packaging won awards. The contents certainly didn't :^D
I never regret buying a new spirit that isn't my favourite, it's fun to try something new.
Maybe I'll have to look up absinthe cocktails but I've never had one that made me not think "I like all the things in this but they'd be a lot better on their own!"

Edit: plus there isn't a good plus cheap single malt! Laphroaig do a few that are definitely good buys and I need to buy some!

Plus this was a present and I'm absolutely not ungrateful!

I have this now.
Would not recommend.

View attachment 119119

It's not strong enough to dilute and still make a satisfying drink. It makes no louche which I find alarming (plus it's clear), and it's not bitter enough so ends up being a bit sweet if you use a sugar cube.

It's marketed as a "new modern" approach on absinthe and tailored to using in cocktails rather than the traditional water and sugar cube thing (which is my way of drinking absinthe) and that just sounds like a bit of a cop out to me.
I'd describe it as an absinthe adjacent drink, but even then I probably wouldn't recommend it.
does it actually have the enough actual wormwood in it? i thought that shit is mainly illegal? If i want to see the fairies i'll make some mushroom tea

I think Trader Joe's cheap Highland single malt is pretty good for $24. Doesn't help you much though, I think.

I'm pretty sceptical about the hallucinogenic properties of absinthe, I just drink it for the taste.
I think most absinthe has wormwood otherwise it would just be pastis (which is also a drink I'm very fond of)!

Which is the exact opposite of mushroom tea, which tastes foul but definitely hits that spot!

I hope it's not called "Trader Joe's cheap Highland single malt"! Although they would get full marks for brevity there!
I think that whisky is definitely one of those drinks where you don't want to go for the cheap option! Like I'm fine with cheap vodka, cheap gin can be fine. I've had good cheap rums but whisky is expensive because it's just expensive to make good whiskey (that said there's no need to pay silly money for it!)

There's bargains to be found in whisky, but it takes trial/error to find them. Mcllellands has some good single malt(the Islay is particularly good) at blend prices. My info is out of date, so it may be ridiculously priced now, but it was reliable and cheap when I was buying a lot of scotch.

Best way to have it is with some lemon juice (https://healing-mushrooms.net/lemon-tek)

I'm going to sound like a bit of a knob now but I'm trying to get away from big companies as much as possible and go for small producers as much as I can!
Obviously I'm not going to be silly about it but for luxuries....

I can respect going for smaller companies. I like finding the bargains as a fill in product. Sometimes I don't know exactly what I want, and don't really want to be challenged. Just something that tastes decent, and doesn't cost a fortune. If it isn't a discount malt, JW Black is a reliable dram.

Counting various expressions, I've probably had over 200 malts. Most of that is in the past. Had an economic downturn, which coincided with whisky prices exploding. I also tend to keep my alcohol consumption to winter. This drinking season's been a bust. I neither bought, nor drank much of anything, though I have gallons of old stock sitting around. I only drink when I'm happy, and I haven't been very happy this drinking season.

I've had a few $300 bottles of scotch, 18-21 year old, I still think the TJ's Highland is remarkably good for the price ̄\_(シ)_/ ̄
I've also had bottom shelf scotch, I think that's literally the only booze I ever thought was so terrible I legit just poured it out and threw the bottle away.

I've had great single malts at £40. Laphroaig 10 years is a pretty good buy around here for £30.

Yeah. Cheap vodka is fine (if you like vodka), that's kinda the point of it. Neutral spirit that you can make out of any kind of starch. Just needs to taste of nothing and not make you go blind! Cheap whisky has a lot that can go wrong!

Islay? Why don't I just burn some tyres and chew some plasters and save my money?

TBH my main experience of mushrooms is going up the local magic mountain, eating fistfuls of mushrooms then heading to the pub! By the time you got there everything was kicking in!
same here , but the older i got the more i found this a blessing.... i used to buy a good quantity of them before a major holiday, then make a whole bunch of magic chocolates for my friends, i cannot to this day think of a better way to eat them

I think that I hit my limit of strong hallucinogens awhile back tbh. Wouldn't mind trying microdosing some now though!

Hey I like my whiskey to taste like burning clinical waste! I'll drink brandy if I want bland!

I've gravitated towards Mezcal because I like the oily mechanic's shop floor flavor that it imparts. Yum! It's kinda like dirty engine oil that's been collected from the floor and filtered through a burned tire.
